- Rewilding Europe ist eine Organisation mit Sitz in Nijmegen, Niederlande, die in einigen Regionen Europas an der Umgestaltung von Landschaften nach dem Konzept des Rewilding arbeitet. Das zuvor als „Wild Europe Field Programme“ bezeichnete Programm wurde 2011 von vier Organisationen ins Leben gerufen: WWF-Niederlande, ARK Nature, Wild Wonders of Europe und Conservation Capital, im Anschluss an die „Konferenz über Wildnis und große natürliche Lebensräume“ (Wild Europe) in Prag im Jahr 2009. Die Organisation sieht Möglichkeiten für den von ihr so bezeichneten „Naturschutz“ im Wandel in der landwirtschaftlichen Praxis in dessen Folge Kleinbauern, Schäfer und andere Weidetierhalter jedes Jahr fast 1 Million Hektar Land aufgeben. Die Initiative hat zum Ziel bis 2022 rund 1 Million Hektar Land neu zu gestalten und Wildnisgebiete in ganz Europa zu schaffen. 2014 unterzeichnete Luigi Boitani, der Präsident der Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe, eine Vereinbarung zur Kooperation mit der Organisation. - Rewilding Europe (« ré-ensauvager l'Europe » ou « ré-ensauvagement de l'Europe ») est une organisation à but non lucratif basée à Nimègue, aux Pays-Bas, qui travaille à recréer des espaces plus sauvages dans au moins dix régions différentes d'Europe. Auparavant nommé « Wild Europe Field Programme » (programme pour des terres sauvages en Europe), ce projet a été lancé en 2011 par quatre organisations : WWF-Pays-Bas, ARK Nature, Wild Wonders of Europe et Conservation Capital, à la suite de la Conférence sur la nature sauvage et les grands espaces naturels à Prague en 2009. Le réensauvagement prôné par l’organisation passe par la création de couloirs et de passages fauniques, la restauration des régimes d'inondations, la suppression des barrages, la restauration des populations fauniques et des chaînes trophiques alimentaires. L'organisation vise à valoriser les terres abandonnées en Europe en les remettant dans un état sauvage maximal. (fr)

Their goal is to maintain and expand areas of wildlife, in a manner that has a positive impact on climate and encourages biodiversity. The group's efforts have helped in increasing the stock of previously-endangered species such as the European bison and the Iberian lynx. Rewilding Europe was formally established on 28 June 2011 as an independent, non-for-profit foundation (ANBI status) registered in the Netherlands. The four co-founders of Rewilding Europe are Frans Schepers, Staffan Widstrand, Neil Birnie and Wouter Helmer. Their set of projects have gradually expanded and they currently work on ten separate landscapes across 12 European countries including Germany, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria. The organization has received funding from the European Investment Bank and the Endangered Landscapes Programme. (en)

Bij deze vorm van natuurbescherming gaat het er om natuurlijke processen waar mogelijk te herstellen en de natuur zo veel mogelijk zijn eigen gang te laten gaan. De organisatie is actief in diverse Europese regio's. Concreet wil Rewilding Europe de achteruitgang van de aantallen van bepaalde wilde diersoorten tegengaan en waar mogelijk de aantallen hiervan te laten toenemen, vanwege de belangrijke ecologische rol die ze kunnen spelen. Rewilding is erop gericht meer ruimte te creeeren voor deze soorten, de populatiegrootte te laten toenemen, en eventueel over te gaan tot herintroductie. (nl)

Organisationen startades 2011 av fyra andra organisationer: WWF-Netherlands, ARK Nature, Wild Wonders of Europe och Conservation Capital. Stiftelsen har ett tioårigt samarbete med Avesta visentpark från 2014 avseende utplacering av visenter från Avesta djurpark i södra Karpaterna i Rumänien.
