- Die Red Bull X-Alps ist ein internationaler Wettkampf für Gleitschirmteams im Biwakfliegen, der seit 2003 im Zweijahresrhythmus ausgetragen wird. Er gilt als der härteste Gleitschirm-Wettkampf der Welt und als eines der härtesten Adventure-Races der Welt, da er über mehrere Tage – mit lediglich den nötigsten Pausen und Erholungsphasen – ausgetragen wird. Der Wettbewerb hat den Status einer inoffiziellen Weltmeisterschaft. Über die Austragung 2005 wurde der Dokumentarfilm „The Red Bull X-Alps 2005“ gedreht, welcher 2006 am 18. Internationalen Berg & Abenteuer Filmfestival Graz teilnahm. Seitdem wurde über jeden Bewerb Dokumentationen veröffentlicht und mit diversen Preisen ausgezeichnet. Urheber des Wettbewerbes war Hannes Arch. Er wurde durch den Dokumentarfilm Glücklicher Ikarus inspiriert, in dem den Alpenhauptkamm von Brauneck bei Bad Tölz nach Bassano del Grappa überquert. (de)

Environ 30 athlètes y prennent part et doivent relier plusieurs "turn points" qui changent à chaque édition de la course. L'itinéraire habituel traverse les régions alpines d'Autriche, Allemagne, Italie, Suisse et France, avant de terminer à Roquebrune-Cap-Martin en France. L'itinéraire est dévoilé au printemps peu avant la course. Jusqu'à présent la course n'a été remportée que par des compétiteurs suisses. (fr)
- The Red Bull X-Alps is a paragliding race in which athletes must hike or fly 1,200 km across the Alps. It first launched in 2003 and has since taken place every other year. Around 30 athletes take part and must navigate their way via a predetermined set of turn points that vary with each race. Every kilometer must be covered either on foot or by paraglider. Teams consist of one athlete and one official supporter, whose role it is to provide technical advice, mental and nutritional support. The route traditionally covers the Alpine regions of Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France before ending in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. The 2017 route featured Slovenia as well. Athletes didn't fly into Monaco due to airspace restrictions, and the term "Monaco" has been used solely for marketing purposes. That is one reason why in the tenth edition (2021) the route has been changed to not include Monaco but rather return to Austria. The exact route is normally unveiled in the spring before the race start. So far the race has only been won by Swiss nationals. (en)

- Red Bull X-Alps – zawody typu rajd przygodowy (adventure race) rozgrywane z użyciem paralotni w Alpach. Trasa wyścigu o długości około 800 km wiedzie wzdłuż głównej grani Alp z Austrii (pierwsze trzy edycje miały start na lodowcu Dachstein, obecnie start jest w Salzburgu) poprzez kilka punktów zwrotnych (zwykle na wybitnych szczytach alpejskich) do mety na brzegu Morza Śródziemnego w Monako. Dwuosobowe zespoły składające się z pilota i pomocnika (supportera) mają za zadanie dotrzeć do mety w jak najkrótszym czasie. Pilot może lecieć na paralotni (bez napędu) od wschodu do zachodu słońca oraz poruszać się pieszo przez całą dobę, niosąc swój ekwipunek do latania (tzw. ekwipunek minimalny, który pilot musi mieć cały czas ze sobą). Pomocnik może się poruszać z użyciem dowolnego środka lokomocji (z wyjątkiem latania) i ma za zadanie dostarczać pilotowi posiłki, zmiany ubrania, baterie do urządzeń elektronicznych, asystować przy startach i organizować przebieg wyścigu. Pomocnik nie może nosić za pilota ekwipunku minimalnego. Pilot niesie ze sobą odbiornik GPS połączony z telefonem komórkowym, dzięki czemu przebieg rywalizacji, aktualna pozycja zawodnika na mapie, przebyta przez niego trasa i aktualny stan (leci, idzie czy odpoczywa) jest widoczny on-line na stronach internetowych organizatora. Zawodnicy są nominowani do startu przez organizatora na podstawie ich umiejętności pilotażowych i osiągnięć w sporcie paralotniowym, wysokie kwalifikacje zawodników mają zapewnić bezpieczeństwo rywalizacji. Wyścig trwa bez przerwy całą dobę, zwycięzcy pokonywali trasę zwykle w czasie około 11-14 dni. Z trzydziestoosobowej grupy startujących zwykle trzech lub czterech zawodników docierało do mety. Meta jest otwarta tylko przez 48 godzin od przybycia na nią zwycięzcy. Reguły rywalizacji ulegały zmianom w każdej z edycji między innymi:
* w 2007 roku wprowadzono zasadę, że co 48 godzin ostatni zawodnik jest eliminowany z wyścigu.
* w 2011 roku wprowadzono obowiązkowy okres wypoczynku pomiędzy 23:00 a 4:00 (pl)
