- Raya o Raia és un terme usat en historiografia romanesa per a referir-se als antics territoris dels principats medievals de Valàquia i Moldàvia que eren sota l'administració directa de l'Imperi Otomà, en contraposició als principats que mantenien la seva autonomia interna sota la suzerania. El terme prové de , un nom genèric per als subjectes no musulmans de l'Imperi Otomà. Tot i que estava poblada principalment per població cristiana, una raya era governada segons la llei otomana. (ca)
- Ο Ράγια ή Ράια είναι όρος που χρησιμοποιείται στη ρουμανική ιστοριογραφία για να αναφερθεί σε πρώην εδάφη των μεσαιωνικών ηγεμονιών της Βλαχίας και της Μολδαβίας που ήταν υπό την άμεση διοίκηση της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας, σε αντίθεση με τα πριγκιπάτα, τα οποία διατήρησαν την εσωτερική αυτονομία υπό Οθωμανική . Ο όρος προέρχεται από τη λέξη ραγιάχ, ένα γενικό όνομα για τους μη Μουσουλμάνους υπηκόους της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας. Αν και κατά κύριο λόγο κατοικούνταν από Χριστιανικό πληθυσμό, τα ράγια κυβερνώνταν σύμφωνα με το Οθωμανικό δίκαιο. Ένα ράια αποτελούνταν από ένα σημαντικό φρούριο και την ενδοχώρα της, η οποία γενικά σχημάτιζε ένα καζά στο Οθωμανικό διοικητικό σύστημα. Στην Βλαχία, το ράια βρίσκεται στη βόρεια όχθη του Δούναβη, γύρω από τα φρούρια των , Τζιούρτζιου και Βραΐλα, ενώ στη Μολδαβία βρίσκονταν στα ανατολικά σύνορα, γύρω από τα φρούρια , , και . - Raya or Raia is a term used in Romanian historiography to refer to former territories of the mediaeval principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia held under the direct administration of the Ottoman Empire, as opposed to the principalities, which kept their internal autonomy under Ottoman suzerainty. The term originated from rayah, a generic name for the non-Muslim subjects of the Ottoman Empire. Though mainly populated by Christian populations, a raya was ruled according to Ottoman law. A raia consisted of an important fortress and its hinterland, which generally formed a kaza in the Ottoman administrative system. In Wallachia, the raia were located on the northern bank of the Danube, around the fortresses of Turnu Măgurele, Giurgiu and Brăila, while in Moldavia they were situated on the eastern border, around the fortresses of Kiliya, Akkerman, Bender and Khotin. The territories in Wallachia were transferred back to the latter in 1829 by the Treaty of Adrianople. (en)

Par métonymie, ses habitants gyaours (non-musulmans, mot francisé en « guèbre ») sont aussi appelés « rayas » ou « raïas » : ils ne sont pas directement soumis au service militaire mais sont mis au service des troupes ottomanes et doivent s'acquitter de l'« impôt sur le sang » ou « tribut du sang » (en turc ottoman دوشيرمه devşirme) et du kharadj (double-capitation). Il y eut de nombreuses rayas sur les frontières ottomanes au cours du temps, créées à la suite de la prise de forteresses chrétiennes par les Turcs, puis progressivement intégrées aux provinces de l'Empire ottoman.
