- Pwn2Own ist ein Computer-Hack-Wettbewerb, der seit 2007 jährlich auf der Sicherheitsconferenz CanSecWest stattfindet. Die Teilnehmer sind herausgefordert, bei weit verbreiteter Software oder mobilen Geräten unbekannte Schwachstellen zu finden und sie auszunutzen. Die Gewinner bekommen das Gerät, das sie gehackt haben, einen Geldpreis und eine „Masters“-Jacke mit dem Jahr ihres Sieges. Der Name Pwn2Own ist Netzjargon und von dem Umstand abgeleitet, dass der Teilnehmer das Gerät hacken („pwn“) muss, um es zu (2 = two = „to“) gewinnen und damit zu besitzen („own“). „Pwn“ ist Leetspeak und selbst von own abgeleitet, die Aussprache ist etwa [pɔːn] oder [poʊn] (neben weiteren Varianten). - Pwn2Own est un concours annuel où des chercheurs en sécurité informatique essaient de pénétrer des ordinateurs équipés d'un système d'exploitation et de divers logiciels incluant un navigateur web entièrement mis à jour. Le premier qui réussit à craquer un ordinateur le gagne. Il y a plusieurs ordinateurs équipés de différentes configurations matérielles et logicielles.Pwn2Own est une session organisée à Vancouver pendant la conférence sur la sécurité informatique. Pour intéresser les hackers, les ordinateurs à gagner sont très récents et performants et il y a également des primes diverses. Les hackers recherchent en secret les failles de sécurité avant le concours et les dévoilent lors de ce dernier en les utilisant. Ensuite, les vulnérabilités trouvées sont généralement divulguées en secret aux éditeurs des différents logiciels. Le chercheur en sécurité informatique Charlie Miller a critiqué certains éditeurs de logiciels pour leur manque d'investissement envers les techniques de fuzzing qui permettraient de détecter beaucoup de failles de sécurités avant la mise à disposition des logiciels. - Il Pwn2Own è una competizione tra hacker che ha come scopo quello di riuscire a trovare delle falle in specifici software, in particolare browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome e Safari) e smartphone di ultima generazione (BlackBerry, iPhone e dispositivi con sistemi operativi Android e Windows Phone), che in precedenza erano ritenuti o erano stati dichiarati privi di vulnerabilità. Il nome "Pwn2Own" infatti è composto dai verbi inglesi "to pwn", che - presente esclusivamente nel gergo informatico - significa "hackerare" ovvero trovare una falla in un software, e "to own", termine usato in particolare nei videogiochi online per "umiliare" l'avversario sconfitto. La competizione è sponsorizzata dalla TippingPoint e si tiene ogni anno in Canada presso il CanSecWest, conferenza sulla sicurezza informatica. I vincitori della competizione ricevono il computer o l'apparecchio su cui sono riusciti ad eseguire l'exploit e un premio in denaro, che può arrivare fino alla cifra di 1.000.000$ (offerti dal team di Google nel 2012 a chi fosse riuscito a "bucare" il loro Google Chrome). De hackers worden uitgedaagd om veelgebruikte software en mobiele apparaten zonder voorheen gekende kwetsbaarheden te hacken. Winnaars van de wedstrijd ontvangen het apparaat dat ze hebben gehackt en een som geld. De naam "Pwn2Own" is afgeleid van het feit dat deelnemers het apparaat moeten "pownen" (hacken) om het te verkrijgen ("own"). De Pwn2Own-wedstrijd dient om de kwetsbaarheid van apparaten en wijdverspreide software aan te tonen en de vooruitgang te tonen in beveiliging tegenover het voorgaande jaar.
