A psychon was a minimal unit of proposed by Warren McCulloch and Walter Pitts in "A Logical Calculus of Ideas Immanent in Nervous Activity" in 1943. McCulloch was later to reflect that he intended to invent a kind of "least psychic event" with the following properties: 1. * it either happened or else it did not happen. 2. * it would happen only if it was the product of a temporal antecedent. 3. * it was to lead to subsequent psychons. 4. * these could be compounded to produce the equivalents of more complicated propositions concerning their antecedents.
