Mientras se dirigen a su destino a bordo de un autobús apodado Priscilla, los tres amigos se encontrarán con diversos personajes y vivirán todo tipo de aventuras y dificultades, incluyendo incidentes de homofobia, a la par que consolidan su relación y descubren nuevos horizontes. El espectáculo se estrenó en 2006 en el Lyric Theatre de Sídney y posteriormente también ha podido verse en el West End londinenese, en Broadway y en numerosas ciudades a lo largo de todo el mundo. Adapted from Elliott's 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the musical tells the story of two drag queens and a trans woman, who contract to perform a drag show at a resort in Alice Springs, a resort town in the remote Australian desert. As they head west from Sydney aboard their lavender bus, Priscilla, the three friends come to the forefront of a comedy of errors, encountering a number of strange characters, as well as incidents of homophobia, while widening comfort zones and finding new horizons. Produced by Allan Scott in coalition with Back Row Productions, Michael Chugg, Michael Hamlyn and John Frost, the Simon Phillips-directed and Ross Coleman-choreographed original production of Priscilla debuted in Australia at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney in October 2006. Having had a successful run in Sydney, the production transferred to Melbourne in 2007 and then Auckland, New Zealand in 2008, before returning to Sydney for a limited engagement. The Australasian success of Priscilla provoked a two-year strong West End production in addition to its Bette Midler-produced Broadway debut in 2011. While the original production received one out of its seven Helpmann Award nominations, Priscilla was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical as well as two Tony Awards, winning these awards in the costume design categories. Adattato dal film di Elliott del 1994 film Priscilla - La regina del deserto, narra la storia di due drag queen e di una transgender, che decidono di realizzare uno spettacolo ad Alice Springs, una città nel deserto australiano. Mentre si dirigono ad ovest di Sydney a bordo del loro autobus, Priscilla, i tre amici vengono alla ribalta di una commedia degli errori, incontrando una serie di personaggi strani ed incorrendo in episodi di omofobia, mentre cercano di trovare nuovi orizzonti. Prodotto da Allan Scott in società con , , Michael Hamlyn e John Frost, lo spettacolo diretto da Simon Phillips e con le coreografie di Ross Coleman debuttò in Australia al nell'ottobre 2006. Avendo incontrato un buon successo a Sydney, la produzione venne trasferita a Melbourne in 2007 e quindi in Nuova Zelanda nel 2008, prima di ritornare a Sydney per un breve periodo nel suo secondo anniversario dalla prima. Il successo australiano di Priscilla generò due anni di rappresentazioni nel West End oltre alla produzione di Bette Midler a Broadway dove debuttò nel 2011.
