- El President del Congrés dels Diputats és el diputat o diputada encarregat d'exercir la presidència del Congrés dels Diputats, la Cambra Baixa de les Corts Generals d'Espanya. La presidència es vota en la sessió constitutiva d'entre els seus membres, amb el vot favorable de la majoria absoluta dels seus membres, o amb majoria simple en una segona votació. És el tercer càrrec en importància d'Espanya segons la Constitució espanyola de 1978.2019 El President representa la cambra, convoca i presideix les sessions del Ple, fixa l'ordre del dia segons la Junta de Portaveus, vigila que els treballs funcionen correctament, dirigeix els debats, ordena els pagaments i s'encarrega del compliment dels reglaments interpretant-los en cas de dubte. Asimismo, como presidente del Congreso, preside las sesiones del Congreso de los Diputados, la cámara baja de las Cortes y su titular es un elegido de entre los miembros de ésta. Tras el rey y el presidente del Gobierno, es la tercera autoridad en el Reino de España según la Constitución. Si bien la representación de las Cortes Generales la comparte con el presidente del Senado, las funciones constitucionales que le son otorgadas en cuanto a refrendos reales y al proceso de elección del jefe del Ejecutivo, hacen que de facto sea el líder del poder legislativo. Esta figura se ve igualmente reforzada al poseer España un bicameralismo asimétrico que otorga mayor protagonismo a la cámara baja. Desde el 21 de mayo de 2019 la presidenta del Congreso de los Diputados es Meritxell Batet Lamaña, diputada del Partido de los Socialistas de Cataluña-PSOE por la circunscripción de Barcelona. Fue presidenta en funciones desde la disolución de la Cámara el 24 de septiembre de 2019 hasta la constitución de la misma en la XIV legislatura el 3 de diciembre, cuando fue reelegida en el cargo. - The president of the Congress of Deputies (Spanish: Presidente del Congreso de los Diputados) is the speaker of the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of the Cortes Generales (the Spanish parliament). The president is elected among the members of the Congress and is, after the king and the prime minister, the highest authority in the Kingdom of Spain. Although the president share the representation of the Cortes Generales with the president of the Senate, the constitutional functions that are granted to the office in terms of royal countersigning and the election process of the head of government, makes the president of the Congress the de facto leader of the legislative branch. This position is also reinforced by having Spain an asymmetric bicameralism that gives greater prominence to the lower house The current office was established by the Spanish Constitution of 1978, however, the position has a tradition of more than 200 years, since its creation in 1810 as President of the Cortes of Cádiz. The current president, of the 14th Cortes Generales (101st since the Cortes of Cádiz) is Meritxell Batet, a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party who represents the electoral district of Barcelona.
