The Porvoo Communion is the community formed through an agreement between twelve European churches outside the Roman Catholic Church. The agreement, entitled, The Porvoo Common Statement, establishes full communion between and among the churches. The agreement was negotiated in 1992 in the town of Järvenpää in Finland. The name of the Communion comes from the town where it was celebrated after the signing in Järvenpää by a joint Holy Communion.

The participating churches understand themselves as parts of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church confessed in the creed of Nicea. The links of their community are (1) the faith of the ancient undivided church, renewed by the reformation of the 16th century, (2) the celebration of baptism and eucharist according to the bible and the ecumenical tradition, (3) the uninterrupted continuity of the historic episcopate (lacking f.e. in the Lutheran churches of Germany which therefore stay aside). The churches involved are the Anglican churches of the British Isles, the Lutheran national churches of the Nordic countries, and the Lutheran churches of the Baltic countries. Later negotiations brought the Episcopal (Anglican Communion) churches of the Iberian peninsula into the agreement.   • Porvoo-Gemeinschaft heißt ein nicht-institutioneller Zusammenschluss von zwölf europäischen Kirchen anglikanischer und lutherischer Konfession. Er entstand durch das Porvoo Common Statement, eine Vereinbarung, die 1992 in der Stadt Porvoo (Borgå) in Finnland verabschiedet wurde und die volle Kirchengemeinschaft zwischen den beteiligten Kirchen feststellt. L'accord qui établi la pleine communion entre les Églises a été négocié en 1994 dans la ville de Porvoo en Finlande. Les Églises concernées sont les Églises anglicanes des Iles britanniques, les Églises nationales luthériennes des pays nordiques et les Églises luthériennes des pays baltes. Des négociations postérieures ont amené l'adhésion de deux Églises épiscopales (anglicanes) de la péninsule ibérique. Avtalen ble underskrevet av kirkenes øverste ledere ved kirkelige seremonier henholdsvis 1. september 1996 i Nidarosdomen, 8. september 1996 i Tallinn domkirke i Estland og 28. november 1996 i Westminister Abbey i London. Preses i Bispemøtet, Andreas Aarflot og leder i Kirkerådet, Oddbjørn Evenshaug, undertegnet på vegne av Den norske kirke.   • Comunhão de Porvoo ou Igrejas de Porvoo é o resultado do acordo celebrado entre doze igrejas protestantes da Europa em 1992, no encerramento de conversações teológicas mantidas por representantes oficiais de quatro igrejas anglicanas e oito igrejas luteranas nórdicas, bálticas e ibéricas. Estas conversações realizaram-se no período de 1989 a 1992 e estabelecem plena comunhão entre as igrejas signatárias do acordo. Tomou o nome de Porvoo por ter sido na catedral de Porvoo, na Finlândia, que se celebrou a Eucaristia no último domingo das conversações. (pronuncia-se pòrvoh). Trata-se de um marco importante no diálogo ecumênico realizado entre a Igreja Anglicana e a Igreja Luterana na Europa do Norte. Um dos resultados deste acordo é que os bispos, presbíteros e diáconos de todas as igrejas participantes podem exercer seu ministério em todas as demais. Todas as igrejas participantes são igrejas episcopais, porém não têm doutrina única sobre o episcopado. Apesar disto, decidiram reunir-se para um futuro comum. Participam das ordenações das demais igrejas da Comunhão de Porvoo, na busca da criação de um episcopado comum. (pt)
