- Constituent Assembly elections were carried out in Portugal on 25 April 1975, exactly one year after the Carnation Revolution. The election elected all 250 members of the Portuguese Constituent Assembly. It was the first free election held in Portugal since 1925, and only the seventh free election in all of Portuguese history. Turnout was a record 91.66 percent, which remains (as of 2022) the highest ever in any Portuguese democratic elections (General, Regional, Local or European). The main aim of the election was the election of a Constituent Assembly, in order to write a new constitution to replace the Estado Novo regime's authoritarian Constitution of 1933 and so this freely-elected parliament had a single-year mandate and no government was based on parliamentary support; the country continued to be governed by a military-civilian provisional administration during the deliberations of the Constituent Assembly. The election was won by the Socialist Party. The Social Democratic Party (then known as the Democratic People's Party, PPD) was the second-most voted party, defending a project that it would soon abandon, social democratic centrism, the Portuguese "Social-Democracy" becoming the major right-wing party in the country a few years after. The parliament had a large majority of parties defending socialist or "democratic socialist" ideas and the Constitution, approved one year after, reflected such influence. The Portuguese Communist Party achieved a surprisingly low total, considering the overwhelming support in the south of the country and the radical turn to the left of the revolutionary process after the failed fascist coup, one month before. With the PPD's shift away from the left and towards the right coming after this election, the only right-of-centre party elected was the CDS, which received 7.6 percent of the vote and 16 seats. (en)
- Las elecciones a la Asamblea Constituyente se celebraron en Portugal el viernes 25 de abril de 1975, un año después del triunfo de la Revolución de los Claveles que dio lugar al Proceso Revolucionario en Curso. El objetivo de estos comicios era la conformación de una cámara representativa que dotase al país de una Constitución democrática. La Constitución sería promulgada el 2 de abril de 1976 manteniendo su vigencia hasta la actualidad, aunque tras ser sometida a profundas reformas que primero limitaron y posteriormente eliminaron sus características socialistas. Estas fueron las primeras elecciones democráticas y multipartidistas en Portugal desde las elecciones parlamentarias de 1925. Los comicios fueron un rotundo éxito de participación, con una abstención de tan sólo el 8,34%. Las elecciones también mostraron que Portugal era un país políticamente dividido entre el sur y el norte. El Alentejo latifundista votaba por el Partido Comunista Portugués, y también buena parte del Portugal industrial. En cambio, las zonas de pequeña propiedad al norte del Tajo, con más peso demográfico, tendían a votar a la derecha. - As eleições para a Assembleia Constituinte (também conhecidas apenas por eleições constituintes) foram as primeiras eleições livres com sufrágio universal realizadas no país. Foram também as primeiras eleições após a Revolução de 25 de abril de 1974. Realizaram-se no dia 25 de abril de 1975 e elegeram os 250 deputados da Assembleia Constituinte, e tiveram a maior participação de sempre. O principal objetivo foi a eleição de uma Assembleia com o fim de escrever uma nova Constituição para substituir a do regime do Estado Novo — a Constituição de 1933 — e, portanto, o parlamento eleito tinha um mandato único de um ano. Nenhum governo foi baseado a partir do apoio parlamentar, e o país continuou a ser governado por um governo provisório militar-civil. Os resultados deram maioria aos partidos do centro: Partido Socialista e Partido Popular Democrático.
