- بيتر أرميتاج (بالإنجليزية: Peter Armitage) هو إحصائي متخصص في الإحصائيات الطبية من مواليد 15 يوليو عام 1924 حاصل على رتبة الإمبراطورية البريطانية. التحق بيتر أرميتاج بكلية هيدرسفيلد، ثم درس الرياضيات في كلية الثالوث بكامبريدج. ينتمي بيتر إلى جيل من علماء الرياضيات الذين وصلوا إلى مرحلة النضج خلال فترة الحرب العالمية الثانية. وانضم إلى وكالة شراء الأسلحة، ووزارة التموين حيث عمل على مشاكل إحصائية مع جورج بارنارد. استأنف بيتر دراسته بعد الحرب وعمل بعد ذلك كإحصائي في مجلس البحوث الطبية بالمملكة المتحدة من عام 1947إلى عام 1961. كما عمل بيتر كأستاذ للإحصاءات الطبية من عام 1961 إلى عام 1966 في كلية لندن للصحة والطب المداري حيث خلف أوستن برادفورد هيل. وانتقل بعد ذلك إلى أكسفورد ليصبح أستاذًا للبيولوجيا، وأصبح أستاذ الإحصاء التطبيقي ورئيس قسم الإحصاء الجديد حتى تقاعد في عام 1990. كما شغل منصب رئيس جمعية الإحصاء الملكية من عام 1982 إلى عام 1984. وأصبح رئيس الجمعية الدولية للإحصاء الحيوي السريري من عام 1990إلى 1991. يعمل الآن رئيس تحرير موسوعة الإحصاء الحيوي. ويعيش في والينجفورد بأوكسفوردشير. - Peter Armitage CBE (born 15 June 1924) is a statistician specialising in medical statistics. Peter Armitage attended Huddersfield College and went on to read mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge. Armitage belonged to the generation of mathematicians who came to maturity in the Second World War. He joined the weapons procurement agency, the Ministry of Supply where he worked on statistical problems with George Barnard. After the war he resumed his studies and then worked as a statistician for the Medical Research Council from 1947 to 1961. From 1961 to 1976, he was Professor of Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he succeeded Austin Bradford Hill. His main work there was on sequential analysis. He moved to Oxford as Professor of Biomathematics and became Professor of Applied Statistics and head of the new Department of Statistics, retiring in 1990. He was president of the Royal Statistical Society in 1982–4. He was president of the in 1990–1991. He is editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Biostatistics. He lives in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
