- The Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (French: Conférence permanente des partis politiques d'Amérique latine et des Caraïbes; Spanish: Conferencia Permanente de Partidos Políticos de América Latina y el Caribe, COPPPAL) is an international organization of political parties in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was created at the behest of the Institutional Revolutionary Party on 12 October 1979 in Oaxaca, Mexico, and brings together liberal, social democratic, Christian democratic, and other leftist political parties.Its first president (1979–1981) was Gustavo Carvajal Moreno of Mexico (PRI). Its current president is the Mexican politician Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas (PRI). COPPPAL was established during a 12 October 1979 conference in Oaxaca, Mexico, on the initiative of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), the ruling party in Mexico at the time. The multilateral non-governmental organization was defined by its charter as a "forum of nationalist parties that prioritize sovereignty, while advancing a more just and egalitarian international order." The organization would advance this goal by "defending democracy and the legal and political institutions while fostering their development and improvement; strengthening the principle of self-determination of the peoples of Latin America; promoting regional integration; supporting any initiative for disarmament; promoting the defense, sovereignty and better utilization of the natural resources of each country in the region; boosting development; promoting Latin American regional organizations and joint actions that will enable the establishment of a more just international economic order; defending and promoting respect for human rights." The organization was led by the PRI between its establishment in 1979 and 1984, and again between 1989 and 2005. Antonio Cafiero of the Justicialist Party (Argentina) was elected president of the coordinating committee in 2005, and Gustavo Carvajal Moreno of the PRI (Mexico) was elected as its adjunct president. Cafiero was succeeded in 2011 by Pedro Joaquín Coldwell of the PRI. The committee coordinates youth exchange, consultative, and other activities among its member parties, as well as with the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP). (en)
- La Conferencia Permanente de Partidos Políticos de América Latina y el Caribe, (COPPPAL), fue creada el 12 de octubre de 1979 en el Estado de Oaxaca, México, por un grupo de partidos políticos de corte progresista de la región liderado por Gustavo Carvajal Moreno, quien para entonces era el presidente del Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI). La Copppal es el más importante foro de partidos políticos de América Latina y el Caribe, a la fecha agrupa 69 partidos políticos progresistas de 30 países del continente. Creó una trilateral con ICAPP, organización de partidos asiático y CAP, que aglutina a los partidos africanos, conformando un conglomerado de 700 partidos políticos. Su primer presidente (1979-1981) fue el mexicano Gustavo Carvajal Moreno (presidente del Comité Ejecutivo Nacional del PRI en aquel momento). Su actual presidente es el político mexicano Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas del Partido Revolucionario Institucional, electo de manera unánime por 60 partidos de 29 países del continente, el 28 de noviembre de 2019, durante la XXXVII Reunión Plenaria, celebrada en Managua, Nicaragua. Dentro del aglutinado de partidos políticos puede también identificarse el Organismo femenino, COPPPAL Mujeres presidido por Ximena Rivillo del PPD de Chile, quien sustituyó en el cargo a Margarita Zapata, nieta del general de la Revolución Mexicana, Emiliano Zapata; previamente Xiomara Castro, actual presidenta de Honduras, ocupó el cargo. Asimismo la organización está conformada por COPPPAL Jóvenes bajo el liderazgo de Sebastián Hagobián del Frente Amplio de Uruguay y Carlos Gutiérrez Mancilla del PRI. La secretaria ejecutiva es Sofía Carvajal Isunza y el secretario ejecutivo adjunto es Jorge García Córdova, desde noviembre de 2019. Los vicepresidentes de región son: J Alberto Aguilar Iñárritu del PRI, Vicepresidente Región Norteamérica, Jairo Carrillo del Partido Liberal Colombiano, Vicepresidente Región Andina, Francisco Cafiero del Partido Justicialista, Vicepresidente del Cono Sur, Rudy Croes del MEP de Aruba, Vicepresidente de la Región Caribe y María del Socorro Espinales del FSLN, Vicepresidenta Región Centroamérica. La COPPPAL cuenta con un Observatorio Electoral que acompaña los procesos en América Latina y el Caribe. Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas (PRI) es el presidente y la doctora Dolores Gandulfo del Partido Justicialista de Argentina, funge como Directora General. Asimismo cuenta con el Instituto de Capacitación Política "Gustavo Carvajal Moreno". (es)
