- Das Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument ist ein US-amerikanisches National Monument westlich und südlich von Hawaii. Es liegt in einem sogenannten „nicht-inkorporierten Territorium“ der Vereinigten Staaten, das zu statistischen Zwecken den United States Minor Outlying Islands zugeordnet wird. Das Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument wurde am 6. Januar 2009 von Präsident George W. Bush durch eine Presidential Proclamation mit einer Fläche von 86,888 km² ausgewiesen. Die Betreuung erfolgt durch den United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) und die National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Am 25. September 2014 wurde es durch Präsident Barack Obama durch eine weitere Presidential Proclamation auf eine Fläche von 313.818.892 acres (1.269.980 km²) vergrößert. Das Schutzgebiet umfasst die Inseln und Atolle Kingmanriff, Palmyra Atoll, Howlandinsel, Bakerinsel, Jarvisinsel, Johnston-Atoll und Wake mit umgebenden Wasserflächen. Bereits vor der Ausweisung als Marine National Monument waren die meisten Inseln und Teile der Gewässer als National Wildlife Refuge ausgewiesen. (de)
- El monumento nacional marino de las islas remotas del Pacífico es un grupo de islas del Pacífico central pertenecientes a los Estados Unidos, no organizadas, en su mayoría no incorporadas a su territorio, donde están prohibidas la mayoría de las actividades humanas.Está compuesto por el atolón Wake, las islas Baker, Howland y Jarvis, el atolón Johnston, el arrecife Kingman y el atolón Palmyra. Fue creado en enero de 2009, conjuntamente con el Monumento nacional marino Fosa de las Marianas y el Monumento nacional marino Atolón Rose. Está prohibida la minería, la perforación y la pesca comercial; la pesca deportiva está restringida. Las islas albergan cientos de especies de peces y aves marinas, y decenas de especies de coral. Algunas de estas islas son también lugares importantes para las culturas de Polinesia y Micronesia, así como para la historia militar y de la aviación. Van de nationale monumenten is het 1.270.477,6 km² grote gebied na het Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument het monument met de grootste beschermde oppervlakte. Het wordt beheerd door de Fish and Wildlife Service van het United States Department of the Interior en de National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration van het United States Department of Commerce. Het monument beschermt onder meer zeldzame zeeschildpadden, walvissen en Hawaïaanse monniksrobben die het Johnstonatol aandoen naast de hoogwaardige koraalriffen. Amerikaanse federale wetgeving verbiedt nu beschadiging, vernietiging of winning van natuurlijke grondstoffen in de zone, evenals het storten van afval of commerciële visserij in het nationaal monument. Onderzoek, vrije doorgang en recreatie zijn wel toegestaan. De bescherming omvat ook de diepe koraalriffen, de onderzeese bergen en de maritieme ecosystemen op grote diepte die uniek zijn voor dit deel van de wereld en die ook tot de meest kwetsbare gebieden behoren door de gevolgen van klimaatverandering en verzuring van de oceaan.
