- Pachna (Pakhna, Πάχνα) es un pueblo en el Distrito de Limasol de la República de Chipre. Está situado en la ladera sur de la cordillera de Troodos a una altitud de 745 m. El nombre Pachna se cree que procede de la antigua palabra griega "πάχνη" (pachni) que se relaciona con la escarcha encontrada en las hojas después de una noche fría. Otra explicación podría venir del significado alternativo de "πάχνη", pesebre, en referencia a su protegida ubicación en medio de las altas colinas circundantes. Durante la ocupación de los francos y venecianos de Chipre el pueblo aparecía en los mapas con el nombre de Padena. Su suelo calcáreo, su elevación y su clima, han hecho a Pachna un lugar ideal para la viticultura. En 1985 las estadísticas del departamento de agricultura recogían 830 hectáreas de tierra cultivadas con vino de mesa o vides, por lo que era el pueblo con mayor producción de uva en la isla. La evidencia de que la vid se ha cultivado aquí desde tiempos antiguos lo demostró la cerámica encontrada en las excavaciones cercanas (asentamiento de Ayia Marina). La gran mayoría de las uvas cultivadas son las variedades locales de mavro (negra) y xynisteri (blanca). Menos común es el cultivo de olivos, algarrobos, manzanos, perales y lentejas. Las estadísticas del censo muestran que desde 1881 hasta 1960 (durante la ocupación británica de la isla) la población aumentó constantemente de 595 a 1.564 habitantes. En la actualidad la población se sitúa en 865 (censo 2011). El pueblo cuenta con dos iglesias, San Jorge (Ayios Yeorgios) y San Pablo (Apostolos Pavlos). La primera escuela primaria se estableció en 1855 y se trasladó a su ubicación actual en 1938. La mayoría de los edificios más antiguos (y muchas casas) están construidos con piedra local que tiene un color amarillo calcáreo único. (es)

- Pachna (Pakhna, Πάχνα) is a village in the Limassol District of the Republic of Cyprus. It is situated on the south slopes of the Troödos mountain range at an altitude of 745 m (2447 ft). The name Pachna is thought to originate from the ancient Greek word “πάχνη” (pachni) which relates to the morning white frost found on leaves following a chilly night. Another explanation could come from the alternative meaning of “πάχνη”, a manger, in reference to its protected location amidst the surrounding high hills. During the Frankish and Venetian occupations of Cyprus the village appeared on maps under the name of Padena. Chalky soil, its elevation and climate, have made Pachna an ideal location for viticulture. By 1985 statistics 830 hectares of land were registered with the agriculture department as cultivated with wine or table vines, making it the largest grape producing village on the island. Evidence that vines have been cultivated here since ancient times came from pottery found in excavations nearby (at Ayia Marina settlement). The vast majority of the cultivated grapes are the local varieties of mavro and xynisteri. Less common is the cultivation of olives, carobs, apples, pears and lentils. Census statistics show that from 1881 to 1960 (during the British occupation of the island) the population increased steadily from 595 to 1564. Currently the population stands at 865 (October 2011 census). The village has two main churches, St George (Ayios Yeorgios) and St Paul (Apostolos Pavlos). The first primary school was established in 1855 and moved to its current location in 1938. Most of these older buildings (and many houses) are built in the local Pachna stone which has its own unique chalky yellow character. (en)
