- Als intensionaler oder (referentiell) opaker Kontext (lat. opacus „beschattet, lichtundurchlässig“) wird in der Sprachphilosophie, der Logik und der Semantik ein sprachlicher Kontext bezeichnet, in dem sich durch Ersetzung von Teilausdrücken mit gleichem Bedeutungsumfang der Wahrheitswert der ausgedrückten Aussage möglicherweise ändert. In gewöhnlichen nicht-opaken Kontexten ist die Ersetzung extensionsgleicher Ausdrücke immer wahrheitserhaltend, also salva veritate möglich. Die Darstellung opaker Kontexte ist eine der wesentlichen Herausforderungen für jedes Modell einer formalen Semantik, da sich an ihnen zeigt, dass weder die gewöhnlichen Objekte in der Welt noch private Vorstellungen unmittelbar die Bedeutung von sprachlichen Ausdrücken sein können. Gottlob Frege identifizierte unter anderem die Wiedergabe fremder Äußerungen in indirekter Rede als einen opaken Kontext (von ihm als „ungerade Rede“ bezeichnet). Die Untersuchung von opaken Kontexten spielt eine Rolle für die philosophische Theorie der Eigennamen, die Theorie der Kennzeichnungen sowie für Modallogik und epistemische Logik. (de)
- Un contexte opaque est un contexte linguistique dans lequel il n'est pas possible de substituer l'un à l'autre des termescoréférentiels tout en garantissant la préservation des valeurs de vérité. Le terme est utilisé en philosophie dans la par opposition à un "contexte transparent". Par exemple :
* Opacité : "Marie sait que Cicéron était un grand orateur" est "référentiellement opaque"; bien que Cicéron soit aussi appelé Tully, on ne peut pas simplement substituer "Tully" à "Cicéron" dans ce contexte et dire que "Marie sait que Tully était un grand orateur" car Marie peut ne pas savoir que Tully est Cicéron.

Zostało ono zdefiniowane przy użyciu pojęcia pozycji czysto odniesieniowej, użytecznego w analizie filozoficznego problemu znaczenia. Wraz z koncepcją , nieprzezroczystość odniesienia wiąże się u Quine’a z odrzuceniem w jego filozofii języka wszelkich kontekstów , czyli takich, w których podstawienie terminu o tym samym odniesieniu, ale o innym sensie, nie gwarantuje zachowania prawdziwości całego zdania.
