- Old Trafford is a cricket ground in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. It opened in 1857 as the home of Manchester Cricket Club and has been the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club since 1864. From 2013 onwards it has been known as Emirates Old Trafford due to a sponsorship deal with the Emirates airline. Old Trafford is England's second oldest Test venue after The Oval and hosted the first Ashes Test in England in 1884. The venue has hosted the Cricket World Cup five times (1975, 1979, 1983, 1999 and 2019). Old Trafford holds the record for both most World Cup matches hosted (17) and most semi-finals hosted (5). In 1956, the first 10-wicket haul in a single innings was achieved by England bowler Jim Laker who achieved bowling figures of 19 wickets for 90 runs—a bowling record which is unmatched in Test and first-class cricket. In 1990, a 17 year old Sachin Tendulkar scored 119 not out against England, which was the first of his 100 international centuries. In the 1993 Ashes Test at Old Trafford, leg-spinner Shane Warne bowled Mike Gatting with the "Ball of the Century". In 2020 the ground was used as one of two biosecure venues, alongside the Ageas Bowl, for the tours involving West Indies and Pakistan which were regulated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After Old Trafford lost test status in 2009, extensive redevelopment of the ground to increase capacity and modernise facilities saw the restoration of the pavilion and creation of The Point, a £12 million stand overlooking the pitch. Il accueille également des concerts : le 12 septembre 2009 le groupe britannique Coldplay à l'occasion de leur tournée des stades, The Viva la Vida Tour; le 4 septembre 2010, le groupe britannique Muse à l'occasion de leur tournée des stades, The Resistance Tour 2010 et la chanteuse Rihanna, dans le cadre de sa tournée Anti World Tour, le 29 juin 2016. Het ligt zo'n drie kilometer ten zuidwesten van het stadscentrum van Manchester, Manchester City Centre en een kleine kilometer ten zuiden van het voetbalstadion van Old Trafford. Het terrein werd in 1857 aangelegd en ingehuldigd voor de Manchester Cricket Club, die evenwel in 1864 opging in een county club voor Lancashire, het graafschap ten noorden van Manchester. Het veld is daarmee sinds 1864 de thuisbasis van de Lancashire County Cricket Club, maar wordt ook regelmatig gebruikt door het Engels cricketelftal. Het was al vier maal een speelveld tijdens het Wereldkampioenschap cricket, meer bepaald tijdens de edities van het WK 1975, WK 1979, WK 1983 en WK 1999. * The Point The Point is een opvallend multifunctioneel conferentiecentrum met 1.000 zitplaatsen, wat het een van de grootste maakt in North West England. Het opende in 2010.
* Players and Media Centre Het Old Trafford Players and Media Centre biedt ruimte aan de media voor de commentaarboxes, en is tevens ontmoetingsplaats in persconferentiezaaltjes voor spelers en sportjournalisten. Het werd ingehuldigd in september 2012. De site wordt in de 21e eeuw ook gebruikt voor festivals en optredens. In juli 2002 ging het More Festival er door met David Bowie, New Order en Green Day, twee maand later was het een stop voor de Heathen Chemistry Tour van Oasis. De The Rising Tour van Bruce Springsteen passeerde in mei 2003 en op de volgende editie van het More Festival in juli dat jaar speelden onder meer R.E.M., Badly Drawn Boy en Idlewild. Doorheen de jaren passeerden de In Your Honor Tour van de Foo Fighters (2006), de In Rainbows Tour van Radiohead (2008), de Viva la Vida Tour van Coldplay (2009), de Resistance Tour van Muse (2010), de Come Around Sundown World Tour van Kings of Leon (2011) ... 2016 bracht in twee opeenvolgende maanden de Anti World Tour van Rihanna en de Formation World Tour van Beyoncé. Op 4 juni 2017 vond hier ook One Love Manchester plaats van en met Ariana Grande maar ook met Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Take That, Niall Horan, Little Mix, Liam Gallagher, Robbie Williams en The Black Eyed Peas. Foi inaugurado como sede oficial das partidas do em 1857, sendo também o local cuja equipe do manda os seus jogos, desde 1864. Este é o segundo local de Test Matches mais antigo da Inglaterra, além de ter recebido o primeiro Ashes Test do país, em julho de 1884, bem como duas semifinais da Copa do Mundo de Críquete. Em 1956, os primeiros 10 wickets em um único turno foram alcançados pelo jogador de beisebol da Inglaterra, Jim Laker, que chegou a marca de 19 wickets em 90 corridas, sendo este um recorde inigualável em Test Matches e no críquete de primeira classe. Durante o Ashes Test de 1993, realizado neste estádio, Shane Warne acertou Mike Gatting com a conhecida "Bola do Século" (em inglês: Ball of Century), um evento histórico desde então neste desporto.
