- Die North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) ist eine nordamerikanische Non-Profit-Organisation mit Sitz in Princeton im US-Bundesstaat New Jersey, welche für die Koordinierung der elektrischen Stromnetzeim nordamerikanischen Raum zuständig ist. Sie wurde am 1. Januar 2007 als Nachfolgeorganisation des 1968 gegründeten North American Electric Reliability Council, auch unter der Abkürzung NERC bekannt, gegründet. Zweck ist die betreiberübergreifende Sicherstellung der elektrischen Energieversorgung. Sie ist für die Koordinierung des überregionalen Stromhandels und für die technischen Spezifikationen für den Energieaustausch zwischen unterschiedlichen nordamerikanischen Netzbetreibern zuständig. Der räumliche Koordinationsbereich umfasst mehrere Verbundnetze in den Vereinigten Staaten, in Kanada und im Norden von Baja California in Mexiko. - The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a nonprofit corporation based in Atlanta, Georgia, and formed on March 28, 2006, as the successor to the North American Electric Reliability Council (also known as NERC). The original NERC was formed on June 1, 1968, by the electric utility industry to promote the reliability and adequacy of bulk power transmission in the electric utility systems of North America. NERC's mission states that it is to "ensure the reliability of the North American bulk power system." NERC oversees six regional reliability entities and encompasses all of the interconnected power systems of Canada and the contiguous United States, as well as a portion of the Mexican state of Baja California. NERC's major responsibilities include working with all stakeholders to develop standards for power system operation, monitoring and enforcing compliance with those standards, assessing resource adequacy, and providing educational and training resources as part of an accreditation program to ensure power system operators remain qualified and proficient. NERC also investigates and analyzes the causes of significant power system disturbances in order to help prevent future events. NERC's standards for generating resources require that sufficient generating capacity be provided such that customers will need to be disconnected less often than once every ten years. These standards are mandatory for only some of the regional entities. (en)
- Le North American Electric Reliability Corporation ou NERC est un organisme sans but lucratif nord-américain fondé en 1968 chargé de faire appliquer des normes de fiabilité pour les réseaux de transport de l'électricité des États-Unis, du Canada et de certaines régions du Mexique. À la suite de la panne de courant nord-américaine de 2003, les autorités américaines ont déploré l'aspect volontaire des normes préparées par le NERC. En 2005, le Congrès américain a adopté l'Energy Policy Act of 2005, donnant au NERC la responsabilité d'élaborer et de faire respecter des normes de fiabilité obligatoires sur tous les réseaux de transport d'électricité de gros aux États-Unis, en collaboration avec huit conseils régionaux, regroupant les différents opérateurs de réseaux. Ces normes sont aussi appliquées au Canada par le biais de protocoles d'ententes signées avec les organismes responsables de la réglementation du secteur électrique dans les différentes provinces, comme la Régie de l'énergie du Québec.
