- Die Nikon FM3A ist eine Spiegelreflex-Kleinbildkamera des japanischen Herstellers Nikon. Die Kamera ist die Nachfolgerin des Modells Nikon FM2, welches 1982 mit der kürzesten Verschlusszeit von 1/4000 Sekunde einen Weltrekord aufstellte. Es handelt sich um eine mechanische Kamera ohne Autofokus. Elektronische Belichtungsmessung und automatische Belichtung (mit Blendenvorwahl) sind möglich, wenn Batterien eingesetzt sind. Eine Abblendtaste und ein mechanischer Selbstauslöser sind vorhanden. Die Kamera wurde mit einem chromfarbenen wie auch mit einem schwarzen Gehäuse gefertigt. Sie war das letzte Modell in der semiprofessionellen Reihe der Nikon-MF-Kameras; das 1995 eingeführte und weiterhin hergestellte Modell Nikon FM10 ist eine wesentlich einfachere Kamera, welche nicht von Nikon selbst, sondern in Lohnfertigung von Cosina hergestellt wird. - The Nikon FM3A is an interchangeable-lens, focal-plane shutter, 35 mm film, single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. It was manufactured by Nikon Corporation in Japan, on small-volume assembly lines, from 2001 to 2006. The camera was available in two colours: all black and satin chrome. The introductory US list price for the chrome body only (no lens) was $820. The FM3A was the successor to the renowned Nikon FM2N camera of 1984 and was the last member of the successful, semi-professional line of Nikon compact 35 mm film SLRs. The other members were the Nikon FM (released 1977), FE (1978), FM2 (1982) and FE2 (1983). They (and the Nikon FA) all used the superficially similar (but not identical) rugged copper-aluminium alloy chassis and high-quality Nikon vertical bearing-mounted metal shutter and ball-bearing mounted film advance, but with improved feature levels, minor external controls and cosmetic differences. The newer low-budget Nikon FM10 and FE10, while named similarly, are completely different introductory-level cameras manufactured by Cosina. The major improvements in the FM3A compared to the FM2N are the hybrid electro-mechanically controlled aluminium-bladed focal plane shutter, the aperture priority auto-exposure mode, the exposure control system and provision for through-the-lens (TTL) off-the-film (OTF) electronic flash automation. In other words, the FM3A merged the robust mechanical systems of the FM2N with the proven, reliable electronic exposure controls of the FE2. (en)

L'otturatore è a tendine in titanio e offre tempi compresi tra 8 s e 1/4000 di secondo, controllati elettronicamente con l'esposizione a priorità di diaframma e meccanicamente (tra 1 s e 1/4000 s) con l'accesso diretto, offrendo la funzionalità completa (tranne per l'esposimetro) in assenza di batterie. La baionetta F mantiene la compatibilità con tutti gli obiettivi AI, AIs, N/AI e AF prodotti dalla Nikkor, naturalmente senza l'autofocus. La macchina mantiene le caratteristiche di robustezza dei corpi degli anni '70. Il corpo è in lega di silicio e alluminio, parzialmente rivestito di materiale plastico antisdrucciolo; le calotte superiore ed inferiore sono in ottone, cromato o verniciato nero. In aggiunta la FM3a prevede l'impostazione automatica (DX) della sensibilità della pellicola, nonché la possibilità della compensazione del flash (TTL) ed il blocco dell'esposizione tramite appositi pulsanti.
