It was first released as an extended play (EP) on October 25, 2004, then commercially released on August 9, 2005 as a long play (LP) through Metropolis Records (North America/UK), Repo Records (Europe) and Hellion Records (Brazil). The LP version included four re-recorded and slightly reworked tracks from their Nothing and Nowhere album: "Happy Birthday", "Horror Show", "Video Kid" and "The Dream". (en)
- Violet è il secondo album della band canadese The Birthday Massacre, uscito nel 2004. Dell'album esistono due versioni: la prima è quella originale, del 2004. La seconda, estesa, è uscita il 9 agosto 2005. L'album è difficilmente catalogabile per genere in quanto fonde elementi molto diversi, quali musica elettronica sullo stile dei primi giochi per computer, "tocchi" death metal, qualche nota in stile "ambient" e testi dark, macabri. Tra le canzoni dell'album, oltre ad esserci l'omonima Violet, vi sono i colori che creano il viola, ovvero Blue e Red. L'altro colore presente è il nero (Black), d'obbligo per band gothic. La cover dell'album mostra due ombre, un coniglio ed una bambina con in mano una bambola decapitata, su di uno sfondo diviso in quadrati a varie tonalità di viola. Sono presenti all'interno di numerosi quadrati delle icone a bassa qualità (si distinguono i pixel che compongono le immagini non smussate) che rimandano nuovamente all'inizio dello sviluppo dei computer. - Violet är det andra studioalbumet av det kanadensiska synthrockbandet The Birthday Massacre från 2004. Albumet släpptes först med nio låtar genom det tyska skivbolaget Repo Records innan en utökad version lanserades av Metropolis Records 2005. Den utökade versionen innehåller nyinspelade versioner av "Happy Birthday", "Horror Show", "Video Kid" och "The Dream" från förra albumet Nothing and Nowhere. Albumet producerades av gitarristerna Rainbow och Michael Falcore och basisten J. Aslan. Det spelades in i tre olika studior i Toronto – Dire Studios, Desolation Studios och Phase One Studios. På albumet medverkar nye trummisen Rhim, som ersatte O.E. under 2003. Stewart Mason på Allmusic gav albumet betyget tre av fem och kommenterade: "Den resulterande blandningen av halvt ihågkomna stilar från inte så länge sedan är underhållande nog, men på samma sätt som paisley-undergroundbanden underhöll under 80-talet själva: Violet är en inte-riktigt-rätt hyllning till en viss musikalisk period som till slut blir mindre roliga än Sisters of Mercy- och Siouxsie and the Banshees-skivorna som troligtvis inspirerade the Birthday Massacre".
