Berdasarkan penilaian pada tahun 2000 yang dilakukan oleh IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) Red List, Nepenthes edwardsiana termasuk dalam tanaman dengan kategori vulnerable atau rentan. Nepenthes edwardsiana memiliki bentuk kantong yang unik dibandingkan dengan tanaman kantong semar lainnya. Kebanyakan tanaman Nepenthes memiliki kantong atas yang lebih kecil, namun tidak dengan tanaman N. edwardsiana, bagian kantong atasnya justru lebih besar mencapai 20 inci atau 50 cm dan dapat menampung lebih dari 400 ml cairan untuk mencerna mangsa. Sementara itu kantong bagian bawah memiliki ukuran 10 inci atau 25 cm yang relatif lebih kecil dibanding kantong bagian atasnya. Kantong yang terdapat pada bagian paling bawah memiliki sayap. (in)
