- Το αρχαίο Νεκρομαντείο του Αχέροντα βρίσκεται στο χωριό Μεσοπόταμος, του Νομού Πρεβέζης, στο σημείο όπου κατά τον Όμηρο "έσμιγε ο ποταμός Αχέρων με τον και τον Πυριφλεγέθοντα, στις βορειοδυτικές όχθες της Αχερουσίας Λίμνης, η οποία αποτελούσε την είσοδο του κόσμου των ψυχών". Το Νεκρομαντείο είναι χτισμένο στην κορυφή ενός λόφου, στον οποίο κατέληγαν οι επισκέπτες από το Ακρωτήρι Χειμέριο του χωριού Αμμουδιά, για να επικοινωνήσουν με τις ψυχές των αγαπημένων τους προσώπων. Ο Όμηρος στην Οδύσσεια περιγράφει αναλυτικά την περιοχή κατά την κάθοδο του Οδυσσέα στον Άδη. Μετά την αποξήρανση της λίμνης Αχερουσίας τη δεκαετία του 50, η όλη γεωγραφία της περιοχής έχει αλλάξει και το μόνο που παραμένει είναι η ήρεμη συμβολή Αχέροντα και Βωβού ποταμού στην πεδιάδα, λίγα μέτρα κοντά στό λόφο του Νεκρομαντείου. Η πρώτη λειτουργία και κατασκευή του Νεκρομαντείου ανάγεται στούς Μυκηναϊκούς χρόνους (1200 π.Χ.), όμως πολλά από τα σημερινά ερείπια φαίνεται να είναι Ελληνιστικής Εποχής (323 π.Χ. και μετά). (el)

- El Necromantío (en griego, Νεκρομαντεῖον) fue un santuario y oráculo griego que se encontraba en Éfira (Tesprotia), en la confluencia de los ríos Aqueronte y Cocito. En este oráculo los fieles acudían a consultar a las almas de los muertos, que eran las que, según creían, tenían la capacidad de predecir el futuro. Fue mencionado por Homero en la Odisea: Odiseo llegó a este lugar y descendió al Inframundo para obtener del alma del adivino Tiresias consejos sobre el modo de regresar a su patria. Se han hallado restos arqueológicos en este lugar. Los más antiguos pertenecen a la época micénica y son tres tumbas infantiles. Los restos de cerámica y estatuillas indican que en el siglo VII a. C. el lugar funcionaba como un santuario. Sin embargo, la parte principal del yacimiento arqueológico pertenece al periodo helenístico temprano. En el año 167 a. C. los romanos destruyeron el santuario, que quedó deshabitado hasta el siglo I, cuando se establecieron en la zona nuevos colonos. The site is at the meeting point of the Acheron, Pyriphlegethon and Cocytus rivers, believed to flow through and water the kingdom of Hades. The meaning of the names of the rivers has been interpreted to be "joyless", "burning coals" and "lament", respectively. La tradition le situe près de l’ancienne ville d’, sur les rives de l’Achéron, rivière d’Épire, au confluent du Phlégéthon ou Pyriphlégéthon (Φλεγέθων, signifiant « flamboyant ») et du Cocyte (Κωκυτός, signifiant « complainte »), rivières censées délimiter le domaine d’Hadès. Dans la mythologie grecque, l’Achéron est une branche de la rivière souterraine du Styx (Στύξ / Stúx, la « haine »), sur laquelle Charon transportait dans sa barque les âmes des défunts vers les Enfers ; l’Achéron reçoit deux affluents en sens contraire : le Cocyte et le Phlégéthon. Compte tenu de la configuration géographique des lieux, une colline, à l'est du village actuel de Mésopotamos, en Épire (coordonnées 39°23'62" Nord et 20°53'45" Est), a été proposée en 1958 comme étant le site du Nécromantéion de l’Achéron, mais cette identification a été remise en question pour diverses raisons. Le site a été détruit par les Romains en 167 av. J.-C. au cours de leur troisième guerre contre la Macédoine, puis partiellement réoccupé au Ier siècle av. J.-C.. Il est resté en usage agricole, avec plusieurs interruptions, notamment à l’époque ottomane, jusqu’au milieu du XXe siècle ; un monastère dédié à saint Jean Prodome y a été construit au début du XVIIe siècle. Segundo a tradição, localizava-se às margens do rio Aqueronte, no Epiro, perto da antiga cidade de Éfira. Os devotos acreditavam que este local era a porta para Hades, o reino dos mortos. O local fica no ponto de encontro dos rios Aqueronte, Piriflegetonte e Cócito, que se acredita fluir e regar o reino de Hades. O significado dos nomes dos rios foi interpretado como "sem alegria", "carvões ardentes" e "lamento", respectivamente. Det låg vid den flodbank där floderna Acheron, och Cocytus möttes strax utanför staden Ephyra i Epirus, eftersom dessa floder då troddes flyta ned till Hades rike i underjorden. Necromanteion var en helgedom dit människor kom för att tala med de avlidna, ofta sina förfäder. Helgedomen omtalas av Homeros 700-talet f.Kr., och förstördes 167 f.Kr. Det råder delade meningar om huruvida man har funnit lämningarna av templet. År 1958 återfanns antika lämningar i detta område, men dessa är endast från 400-talet f.Kr. och tycks motsvara en befäst lantegendom snarare än ett tempel. (sv)
