- The Morris Commercial J-type is a 10 cwt (0.5 ton) van launched by Morris Commercial in 1949 and produced until 1961. After the formation of the British Motor Corporation in 1952, by the merger of Morris' parent company, the Nuffield Organization, and Austin, the Commercial name was dropped and the van was marketed as the Morris J-type. The van followed the emerging trend of having forward controls and sliding doors on each side. It was made in both left and right hand drive versions. As well as complete vehicles, the J-type was also supplied in chassis form to external body makers and it appeared, amongst other uses, as a pick-up, tipper truck, ice cream van and milk float. Many were bought by the British Post Office and these differed from standard in having rubber front and rear wings. The J type is fitted with a 1476 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine based on the one used in the contemporary Morris Oxford MO car. Drive to the rear wheels is through a three-speed gearbox and initially a spiral bevel gear type rear axle, later replaced by a hypoid type. The van was updated to the JB in 1957 when an overhead valve 1489 cc, BMC B-Series engine was fitted along with a four-speed gearbox. An Austin version of the van appeared in 1957 known as the Austin 101 and differed from the Morris only in badging and radiator grille styling. Production ceased early in 1961 after over 48,600 had been made. It was replaced by the Morris J4, while a similar but slightly larger van, the J2, had also been on offer since 1956. (en)

- De Morris Commercial J-type' is een lichte bestelwagen. De wagen werd in 1949 op de markt gebracht en bleef tot 1961 in productie bij Morris Commercial Cars. In 1952 werd British Motor Corporation opgericht, na een fusie van het moederbedrijf Morris, de Nuffield Organization, en Austin Motor Company. Vanaf de fusie werd de naam versimpeld tot Morris J-type. Het busje kreeg een platte voorkant en de benzinemotor lag in het midden van de bestuurderscabine. Het kreeg aan beide zijden schuifdeuren. De viercilinder zijklepmotor had een cilinderinhoud van 1476 cc. Voor de aandrijving naar de achterwielen was een versnellingsbak met drie versnellingen vooruit geïnstalleerd. Het werd gemaakt met een stuur rechts of links voor exportmarkten. Het laadvermogen was 10 cwt (circa 0,5 ton). Morris Commercial Cars maakte complete voertuigen, maar van de J-type kon ook alleen het chassis geleverd worden. Carrosseriebouwers maakten vervolgens een opbouw die voldeed aan de wensen van de klant. Er kwamen diverse versies waaronder pick-ups, kippers, ijsco- en melkwagens. De Britse post was een belangrijke klant en heeft veel exemplaren gekocht. In 1957 werd het busje gemoderniseerd. Er kwam een JB versie uitgerust met een krachtiger kopklepmotor van 1489 cc en de versnellingsbak kreeg er een versnelling bij. In 1961 werd de productie gestaakt. De totale productie was 48.600 exemplaren. Het werd opgevolgd door de Morris J4. Een Austin-versie van het busje verscheen in 1957, bekend als de Austin 101. De verschillen met de Morris versie waren klein, het kreeg een afwijkend embleem en de radiatorgril was iets anders. (nl)
