Memos Makris (Greek: Μέμος Μακρής, Hungarian: Makrisz Agamemnon) (born April 1, 1913, in Patras – died May 26, 1993, in Athens) was a prominent Greek sculptor. He spent his early childhood in Patras but his family moved to Athens in 1919. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and soon became involved in the artistic and cultural life of the 1930s. During the German Occupation Makris joined the National Resistance. After the liberation he continued his studies in Paris. He was deported from France in 1950 due to his political allegiance to the Left and sought political asylum in Hungary. In Hungary he became an important figure in the country's political and cultural life. Γεννήθηκε και πέρασε τα παιδικά του χρόνια στην Πάτρα. Το 1919, η οικογένειά του μετακόμισε στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών στην Αθήνα με δασκάλους τους Μιχάλη Τόμπρο, Επαμ. Θωμόπουλο και Κ. Δημητριάδη. Αναμίχθηκε γρήγορα στην καλλιτεχνική και πολιτιστική ζωή της δεκαετίας του '30. Ήταν μέλος του Επιμελητηρίου Εικαστικών Τεχνών Ελλάδος (ΕΕΤΕ). Κατά τη διάρκεια της γερμανικής κατοχής, ο Μακρής πήρε μέρος με έντονη δράση στην Εθνική Αντίσταση. Μετά την απελευθέρωση συνέχισε τις σπουδές του στο Παρίσι. Απελάθηκε από τη Γαλλία το 1950, λόγω των αριστερών πολιτικών πεποιθήσεών του και βρήκε πολιτικό άσυλο στην Ουγγαρία. Στην Ουγγαρία δραστηριοποιήθηκε ενεργά στην καλλιτεχνική, πολιτική και πολιτιστική κίνηση της χώρας, όπου καθιερώθηκε ως ένας από τους γλύπτες που εξέφραζαν την επίσημη αισθητική του κράτους με συνθέσεις μέσα στο πνεύμα του σοσιαλιστικού ρεαλισμού. Το 1964, του αφαιρέθηκε η ελληνική υπηκοότητα, την οποία επανέκτησε το 1975 μετά την αποκατάσταση της δημοκρατίας στην Ελλάδα. Το 1978 στην Εθνική Πινακοθήκη, πραγματοποιήθηκε η πρώτη αναδρομική έκθεσή του στην Ελλάδα . (el)
