- Und täglich grüßt das Erdmännchen (engl. Meerkat Manor) ist eine von Animal Planet und dem Discovery Channel produzierte und ausgestrahlte Dokusoap-Serie, die das Leben vierer Erdmännchen-Familien als Quasi-Seifenoper rahmt. Die tierische Doku-Soap lief weltweit mit großem Erfolg über vier Staffeln. In Deutschland wird die Serie u. a. von Animal Planet und von DMAX ausgestrahlt. Ein Team der University of Cambridge beobachtet in der auf zehn Jahre angelegten Studie genau das ausgeprägte Sozialverhalten der Tiere sowie deren Entwicklung über mehrere Generationen hinweg. Ansässig sind die Tiere im nördlichen Südafrika in der Kalahari-Wüste. Drei Quadratkilometer davon bilden das Territorium von „Familie Erdmann“, im englischen Original heißt die Sippe „Whiskers“, die Serie heißt „Meerkat Manor“ (Landgut Erdmann). Das Alpha-Weibchen Blümchen („Flower“) führt die teilweise bis zu 44 Tiere große Sippe an. Sie trägt einen Sender; Kameras zeichnen die Aktivitäten der sozialen Raubtiere auf, damit die Forscher die Gruppendynamik sowie das Verhalten der Tiere untersuchen und die Fernsehserie zusammenstellen können. Auszug aus der Beschreibung der Serie bei Animal Planet (Premiere):„Big Brother in der Kalahari-Wüste: Die Hauptdarsteller sind 30 Zentimeter hoch, bewohnen unterirdische Höhlen und ernähren sich von Würmern, Insekten und Eidechsen. Diese Dokumentarserie beobachtet das alltägliche Leben der Whiskers, einer Gruppe von Erdmännchen aus der Kalahari: fressen, schlafen, streiten, lieben, Kinder bekommen und sterben. Es ist fast wie bei uns Menschen. - El Reino del Suricato es un programa de televisión producido por Oxford Scientific Films (OSF) para Animal Planet International que se estrenó en septiembre de 2005 y continuó durante cuatro temporadas hasta su cancelación en agosto de 2008. La serie, que mezclaba secuencias más al estilo tradicional de los documentales de animales con una narración dramática, contaba la historia de los Whiskers, una de más de una docena de familias de suricatos en el desierto del Kalahari, que están en estudio como parte del Proyecto Suricatos de Kalahari, un estudio de campo de la causas ecológicas y las consecuencias evolucionarias de la naturaleza cooperativa de los suricatos. Originally broadcast on Animal Planet International for four series, until its cancellation in August 2008, the programme had a revival in 2021 with the programme now known as Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty in some countries. Using traditional animal documentary style footage along with narration, the series told the story of the Whiskers, one of more than a dozen families of meerkats in the Kalahari Desert being studied as part of the Kalahari Meerkat Project, a long-term field study into the ecological causes and evolutionary consequences of the cooperative nature of meerkats. The original programme was narrated by Bill Nighy, with the narration redubbed by Mike Goldman for the Australian airings and Sean Astin for the American broadcasts. The fourth series, subtitled The Next Generation, saw Stockard Channing replacing Astin as the narrator in the American dubbing. In 2021, Nighy could be heard narrating the new series of Meerkat Manor when it was broadcast in the United States on BBC America and on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, making it the first time that both television markets have used the same voice over on the programme. Meerkat Manor premiered in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2005, and the first 13-episode series concluded on 24 October 2005. With the success of the programme in the United Kingdom, Animal Planet started broadcasting it on its national channels in Australia, Canada, and the US. The Rise of the Dynasty series was made by Oxford Scientific Films (with the master rights belonging to BBC America) and featured three mobs of meerkats, with the groups being given the names Whiskers, Hakuna Mata and Ubuntu. Although the show faced criticism from viewers for not intervening when a meerkat was injured and faced death, Meerkat Manor enjoyed considerable success and was Animal Planet's top series in October 2007, both on the cable channel and through its video-on-demand service. The show's experimental format broke new ground in animal documentary filming techniques and gave viewers a long-term, intimate look into the lives of its meerkat stars, breaking the traditional wall between viewer and subject found with most documentaries. Meerkat Manor was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards: two in 2007 and one in 2008. It won awards at the 2006 Omni Awards, and at the 2006 and 2007 New York Festivals TV Broadcasting Awards. The first three series have been released to DVD in both Region 1 and Region 2. In 2007, a book entitled Meerkat Manor – The Story of Flower of the Kalahari was released in the UK, detailing the life of Flower and the Whiskers before the series' filming began. - Meerkat Manor is een serie van Animal Planet die gaat over het leven van een familie stokstaartjes in de Kalahariwoestijn in het zuiden van Afrika. In deze 'soapserie' wordt nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden wat voor spannende avonturen de diertjes beleven. Het kan behalve het dagelijkse zoeken naar voedsel gaan om onder meer overspel, ruzies met andere families, het opvoeden van de jongen of het ontwijken van vijanden zoals roofvogels. In de serie komen geen mensen voor. De commentaarstem wordt ingesproken door Bill Nighy.Voor het opnemen van de serie werd gebruikgemaakt van vezeloptische camera's, zodat er voor het eerst in een stokstaartjesburcht gekeken kon worden. De opnamecrew verbleef tijdens de opnamen in een speciaal gebouwde schuur, zodat de stokstaartjes ongezien gevolgd konden worden. De serie werd in Vlaanderen uitgezonden op VTM, eerst onder de naam De familie Stokstaart. Voor het uitzenden van de tweede reeks werd wel de oorspronkelijke titel gebruikt.
