- Das Max-Planck-Institut für Marine Mikrobiologie (MPI-MM) existiert seit 1992 in Bremen. In direkter Nähe zur Universität Bremen mit ihren Fachbereichen für Biologie und Geowissenschaften, an denen ebenfalls Meeresforschung betrieben wird, führt es Untersuchungen zum Stoffkreislauf der Elemente in den Meeren und den beteiligten Mikroorganismen durch. Zu den Mikroorganismen (genannt auch Mikroben) gehören in erster Linie die Bakterien und einzellige Algen, aber auch urzeitlichere Einzeller der Domäne der Archaea. Bei der Forschung und der Koordination der Arbeit findet eine enge Kooperation mit einer Vielzahl weiterer Forschungseinrichtungen in Norddeutschland und mit Institutionen in der ganzen Welt statt. Im Land Bremen sind dies vorrangig die Universität Bremen, die Jacobs University Bremen oder das Alfred-Wegener-Institut in Bremerhaven. und sind die mittlerweile verabschiedeten Gründungsdirektoren. Aktuelle Direktoren sind Rudolf Amann, Nicole Dubilier und . Antje Boetius, die Direktorin des Alfred-Wegener-Institutes, leitet weiterhin eine Brückengruppe am Institut. (de)
- El Instituto Max Planck de Microbiología Marina forma parte de la red de centros de investigación de la Sociedad Max Planck. Se encuentra localizado en el campus de la Universidad de Bremen, en la ciudad alemana de Bremen. En su edificio diferentes grupos estudian los aspectos más relevantes de la : diversidad de los microorganismos en los océanos, los ciclos biogeoquímicos de los diferentes elementos y cómo se ven afectados por los microorganismos y la ecología de los microorganismos en los distintos hábitats marinos. - The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is located in Bremen, Germany. It was founded in 1992, almost a year after the foundation of its sister institute, the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology at Marburg. In 1996, the institute moved into new buildings at the campus of the University of Bremen. It is one of 80 institutes in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft). Currently, the institute consists of three departments with several associated research groups:
* Biogeochemistry (headed by Dr. Marcel Kuypers)
* Molecular Ecology (headed Prof. Dr. Rudolf Amann)
* Symbiosis (headed by Prof. Dr. Nicole Dubilier) Additionally, the following research groups reside in the institute.
