- Marxism Today war eine britische Zeitschrift, die von der Communist Party of Great Britain herausgegeben wurde und als deren autoritative Publikation für Theoriefragen galt. Sie ging aus der Vierteljahreszeitschrift Marxism Quarterly (bis 1954 Modern Quarterly) hervor, die im Zuge der schweren Parteikrise 1956/1957 eingestellt wurde. Marxism Today erschien ab September 1957 monatlich und führte den Untertitel Theoretical and Discussion Journal of the Communist Party. Als Herausgeber fungierte bis 1977 der Historiker . Unter dessen – unter anderem von Eric Hobsbawm empfohlenen – Nachfolger spielte die Zeitschrift ab November 1977 eine wichtige Rolle bei den Fraktionskämpfen in der CPGB, in denen sie als aktivster Anwalt des eurokommunistischen Flügels hervortrat. Das Ausmaß der Verantwortung von Marxism Today für den Niedergang und die schließliche (Selbst-)Auflösung der CPGB ist Gegenstand einer anhaltenden Kontroverse. In der zweiten Hälfte der 80er Jahre verabschiedete sich die Zeitschrift nahezu vollständig von marxistischen Positionen und fungierte – obwohl offiziell bis zuletzt ein Organ der britischen KP – als Diskussionsplattform einer linksliberalen, in der Hauptsache akademischen Öffentlichkeit. In dieser Phase zog sie Autoren wie Ralf Dahrendorf, André Gunder Frank, Louis Althusser, Ernesto Laclau, und Chantal Mouffe an. Mit der Dezember-Ausgabe 1991 stellte die Zeitschrift ihr Erscheinen ein. Im letzten Heft druckte die Redaktion unter anderem einen Leserbrief des damaligen Geschäftsführers der Conservative Party (Chris Patten) ab, in dem dieser – mit Blick auf die Rolle der Zeitschrift in den Jahren zuvor durchaus doppelbödig – wissen ließ: „I shall miss you.“ Der Herausgeber des Morning Star und langjährige innerparteiliche Gegner von Jacques Tony Chater schrieb dagegen an gleicher Stelle, dass Marxism Today „has gradually turned into an eclectic, yuppified magazine of little interest to most marxists.“ (de)
- Marxism Today, published between 1957 and 1991, was the theoretical magazine of the Communist Party of Great Britain. The magazine was headquartered in London. It was particularly important during the 1980s under the editorship of Martin Jacques. Through Marxism Today, Jacques is sometimes credited with coining the term "Thatcherism", and believed they were deconstructing the ideology of the government of the-then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher, through their theory of New Times. It was also a venue for the influential British cultural studies of Stuart Hall. It was the standard-bearer for the reformist wing of the CPGB in the years 1977–1991. A special issue was published in 1998, seven years after the magazine's demise. Until 1998, the New Statesman described itself on an inside page as incorporating Marxism Today, among other titles. Éditée par le Parti communiste de Grande-Bretagne (PCGB), son lectorat était cependant constitué d'adhérents de tous les partis de gauche du Royaume-Uni, notamment en grande partie d'électeurs du Parti travailliste. Au sommet de son influence dans les années 1980, le périodique analyse et critique la politique de Margaret Thatcher, notamment à travers le concept de « thatchérisme » dont l'invention du terme lui est créditée, apparaissant pour la première fois dans le numéro de janvier 1979 du magazine. La revue cesse de paraître fin 1991, à la suite de la chute des régimes communistes en Europe puis de la dissolution du Parti communiste de Grande-Bretagne. Longtemps soutien de Tony Blair et conduisant le mouvement « réformiste » à l'intérieur du PCGB, Marxism Today publie un tout dernier numéro de sa revue en 1998, sept ans après l'arrêt de sa parution. Très critique à l'égard du gouvernement Blair, cette dernière édition dénonce la « dérive libérale » que la revue identifie au sein du Parti travailliste et s'oppose à la politique menée par l'exécutif de l'époque.
