April 1908 in Venedig) war ein spanischer impressionistischer Maler.Er zählte seinerzeit zu den wenigen hervorragenden spanischen Landschaftsmalern.Seine detaillierten und atmosphärischen Werke spiegeln häufig auch die Architektur wider.Selbst das bunte Treiben mehrerer Menschen konnte Rico y Ortegamit seinem fotorealistischen Gedächtnis in seinen Bildern festhalten.Seine Technik vermischte die Kunst der Panorama-Maler des 19. Jahrhunderts mit der von Veduten-Malern des 18. Jahrhunderts. Teilweise wandte er auch Hyperrealismus an, indem er Perspektiven von Gebäuden veränderte, um sie besser wieder erkennbar zu machen. Rico y Ortega war einer der ersten in situ Landschaftsmalern — er malte also nicht im Atelier. International bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine zahlreichen Bilder von seiner Wahlstadt Venedig. - Martín Rico Ortega (lub Martín Rico y Ortega) – hiszpański malarz pejzażysta. Studiował na Królewskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych św. Ferdynanda w Madrcyie. Jego nauczycielem był Jenaro Pérez Villaamil. Współpracował także ze swoim bratem, Bernardem, w charakterze rysownika i ilustratora. Został dyrektorem czasopisma La Ilustración Española y Americana. W 1854 r. rozpoczął serię podróży po Europie, odwiedził Francję, Szwajcarię, Anglię i Włochy. Pod wpływem artystów takich William Turner, Jacob van Ruisdael i Mariano Fortuny jak jego twórczość ewoluowała od realizmu do impresjonizmu. Jedno z jego najbardziej znanych dzieło to Praczki. W 1907 opublikował pamiętniki, które dedykował malarzowi Aureliano de Beruete. (pl)
