- Mars is a permanent offshore drilling and production tension-leg oil platform (TLP) operating in Mississippi Canyon blocks 762, 763, 806, 807, 850 and 851 in the Gulf of Mexico and was approved by the MMS in December 1992 with production beginning on July 8, 1996. The leases were acquired by Shell in 1985 and 1988. The platform is a joint venture between Shell Oil Company and BP, with Shell owning the majority share and operating the facility. Mars is positioned in a water depth of 896 m (2940 ft) and is designed to produce 220,000 barrels (35,000 m3) of oil and 220 million cubic feet (6,200,000 m3) of gas a day. (en)

- A Plataforma Mars é uma plataforma petrolífera situada no golfo do México em águas do estado de Luisiana. Com 990,6 metros de altura, e construída no sistema de pernas atirantadas, ultrapassa o Edificio Burj Dubai, que tem 818 metros de altura. A Plataforma Mars sofreu parada de sua produção devido aos danos provocados pelo furacão Katrina, no final de Agosto de 2005, mas retornou a produção em Maio de 2006 e estava produzindo levemente acima de suas taxas pré-Katrina em Julho de 2006.. A plataforma foi projetada para suportar ondas de 22 m e ventos de 225 km/h simultaneamente; os ventos provocados pelo Katrina, porém, atingiram entre 265 e 280 km/h na região da plataforma. A altura da parte sobre a plataforma foi temporariamente afectada em cerca de 20 m. (pt)
