- Le 21 octobre 1967, le Comité de Mobilisation national pour Finir la Guerre au Viêt-Nam organisa un grand rassemblement sur Washington D.C. : des milliers de manifestants se réunissent devant le Pentagone pour protester contre la guerre du Viêt Nam. La marche a débuté à l'ouest du Potomac, le parc près du mémorial de Lincoln, pour se diriger vers le Pentagone où le rassemblement se tint sur le parking. Les militants adoptèrent une attitude de résistance non-violente. Environ 100 000 personnes étaient présentes à la première marche ; 800 personnes ont été arrêtées pour « résistance passive ». C'est à cette occasion que le Français Marc Riboud prend la photo La fille à la fleur qui devient par la suite une icône de la protestation américaine contre la guerre au Vietnam. (fr)
- The March on the Pentagon was a massive demonstration against the Vietnam War on October 21, 1967. The protest involved more than 100,000 attendees at a rally by the Lincoln Memorial. Later about 50,000 people marched across the city to The Pentagon and sparked a confrontation with paratroopers on guard. The demonstrations were highly polarizing, and also produced the famous photograph of a protester placing flowers in a paratroopers' rifle. Following a concert by Phil Ochs, as well as speeches from David Dellinger and Dr. Benjamin Spock, around 50,000 of those attending were then led by social activist Abbie Hoffman and marched from the Lincoln Memorial to The Pentagon in nearby Arlington, Virginia to participate in a second rally.
