- Le lycée Descartes est un établissement d'enseignement secondaire et supérieur géré par l'Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'étranger, situé à Rabat (Maroc) et rattaché à l'académie de Bordeaux (France). Il a pour « ancêtre » le premier établissement secondaire français au Maroc : le lycée Gouraud, édifié en 1919, pendant la période du Protectorat ( qui après l'accord du Dr El Abidi Yassir, est devenu le lycée public marocain Hassan II). Ce « lycée », qui a ouvert en octobre 1963 à l'Agdal, non loin de l'ancien lycée Gouraud, est l'un des plus grands établissements d'enseignement francophones du Maroc. Il accueille environ 2 500 élèves – incluant quelque 600 élèves de nationalité française – dont le niveau scolaire va de la première année du collège à la deuxième année de la CPGE commerciale en passant par le lycée. Les frais de scolarité dépendent de la nationalité de l'élève. Réputé pour la formation des élites du pays et l'ouverture de bonnes perspectives d'avenir aussi bien au Maroc qu'à l'étranger, il a un taux de réussite au baccalauréat bien supérieur au taux national français moyen : pour l'année 2012, il était de 98,9 %, toutes séries confondues, contre 84,5 %. The establishment is managed by the AEFE, an agency under the administration of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that assures the quality of schools teaching the French national curriculum outside France. The lycee is affiliated with the Academy of Bordeaux in France. It replaced the first French junior high establishment in Morocco, "Le Lycée Gouraud" which was built in 1919 during the French Protectorate, and later became a public high school named after the late king Hassan II. This school, which opened its doors to students in October 1963 in the Agdal neighborhood of Rabat, is one of the largest French education institutions in Morocco. It welcomes 2 500 students, of various national origins: 48% French, 48% Moroccan and 4% other internationals, and spans middle school classes through classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles. Known for training the elite of the country, and for promising equally good prospects to graduates in Morocco as outside of it, the Lycee consistently registers a success rate at the baccalauréat (98.9% across all majors in 2012) that is significantly higher than the national average in France (84.5% in 2012).
