This is an outline of commentaries and commentators. Discussed are the salient points of Jewish, patristic, medieval, and modern commentaries on the Bible. The article includes discussion of the Targums, Mishna, and Talmuds, which are not regarded as Bible commentaries in the modern sense of the word, but which provide the foundation for later commentary. With the exception of these classical Jewish works, this article focuses on Christian Biblical commentaries; for more on Jewish Biblical commentaries, see Jewish commentaries on the Bible.

Neben dem Bibeltext enthalten sie oft auch Querverweise auf ähnliche Bibelstellen (siehe Konkordanz) sowie inhaltliche Deutungen auf Basis einer wissenschaftlichen Exegese. Bibelkommentare dienen neben theologischen Zwecken auch dem persönlichen Bibelstudium oder als Einleitung zu den verschiedenen Büchern der Heiligen Schrift. In ihrem Umfang reichen sie von Taschenbüchern bis zu mehrbändigen Werken. Sie befassen sich im Regelfall nur mit den im Bibelkanon enthaltenen Schriften (46 bzw. 39 im Alten, 27 im Neuen Testament), verweisen aber bisweilen auch auf die Apokryphen. (de)
