  • The third and final season, titled level 3, of the Zatch Bell! anime series was directed by Tetsuji Nakamura and Yukio Kaizawa and produced by Toei Animation. Based on the manga series by Makoto Raiku, the season follows the Mamodo Zatch Bell, along with his human partner Kiyo Takamine, on his continuing quest to become king of the Mamodo world, but they both must also contend with an existential threat to Earth. The third season of the TV series, known formally as Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (金色のガッシュベル!!, lit. "Golden Gash Bell!!"), aired in Japan from April 3, 2005, to March 26, 2006, on Fuji TV. The season adapts volumes 18 through 22 of the manga, before assuming an original plotline roughly parallel to volumes 23 through 29. Only the first four episodes of the season were edited and dubbed in English, and they premiered on YTV's programming block Bionix in Canada from November 15, 2008, to December 6, 2008. The dubbing was provided by Viz Media. After episode 104, the English broadcast of the show was discontinued, leaving the remainder of the series exclusive to Japan. Viz Media ceased the English translation of the manga series less than one year later after twenty-five volumes. The episodes were collected into seventeen DVD compilations by Shogakukan and released between July 7, 2006, and March 7, 2007. The four dubbed episodes of this season were added to the Crunchyroll streaming service along with the previous one hundred episodes in 2016. Four pieces of theme music are used in the episodes: one opening theme and three closing themes in the Japanese episodes, and one opening and closing theme for the dubbed episodes. The Japanese opening theme throughout is "Mienai Tsubasa" (見えない翼, lit. "Invisible Wings") by Takayoshi Tanimoto. The first Japanese ending theme is "Kyou yori Ashita wa" (今日より明日は, lit. "Tomorrow will be better than today") by Echiura, used until episode 125; the second ending theme is "★Aso Fever 2005★" (★遊Fever 2005★, lit. "★Play Fever 2005★") by Tomoe Shinohara, used until episode 149; and the third is "Kasabuta" (カサブタ, lit. "Scab") by Hidenori Chiwata, used in the finale—this piece was also played as an opening theme during the first season of the series. For the English release, the opening theme is "Follow the Light," and the ending theme is the instrumental remix of "Zatch Bell! Theme"—both tracks were composed by Thorsten Laewe and Greg Prestopino. (en)

Kiyo receives a photo of Rodeux and Chita, both who were last seen with the pair prior to their disappearance. At that moment, a specter appears in Kiyo's room disclosing Riou's plans to use the structure, referring to it as Faudo, for his advantage, and that he is leveraging humans with a curse that will kill them in four days' time unless Faudo's seal is broken. • Due to the boost from Bao, Zatch overpowers his evil twin and burns his book. Nonetheless, Zeno deliberately shatters the control gem, taking away the only means of stemming Faudo and taunting his brother into proving himself. Zatch and Kiyo's allies soon regain consciousness and, with a plan to destroy the uncontrolled Faudo, help evacuate every remaining Mamodo and human inside the giant by using a teleporter to send them away. Deciding that he and Zatch are better off alone, Kiyo teleports all of their friends out to safety as well, over their objections. By now, Faudo is rapidly closing in on Kiyo's hometown of Mochinoki, Japan. From a ledge on shore, Sherry and Brago deploy a spell that halts it from making landfall, thus allowing Kiyo and Zatch to teleport into position on the beach nearby. With the final display of "Bao Zakerga," the two manage to obliterate Faudo in a colossal blast, saving the town and ending the threat to Earth. An exhausted Kiyo then collapses, while Zatch rejoices their latest victory. In the post-credit scene, Kiyo and Zatch meet Sherry and Brago at a grassland, the Mamodo being the only two left on Earth, and prepare for the final battle for Mamodo king. (en)

Zatch's lookalike and his human partner are also on their way to Faudo, remarking on others seeking out its raw power as well. Alerted to the imminent incursion, Riou dispatches Keith and Buzarai to confront the interlopers. Meanwhile, the allies manage to locate Faudo concealed within a magical barrier, which they bypass by parachuting from directly above onto a citadel encircling the vault. On their descent, however, Buzarai attacks them, causing Kiyo, Folgore, and their Mamodo to get separated from the others. Dartangan tries to light up his cigar but accidentally pushes the self destruct switch which destroys the ship they're on. (en)

Buzarai uses his strongest spell and Kiyo realizes "Bao Zakeruga" can not defeat it unless powered by at least one "Zagurzem". One of Kanchome's clones manages to grab onto Keith and throw him in front of Buzarai's attack. Using the "Zagurzem" stored in Keith, "Bao Zakeruga" defeats Buzarai's spell and damages Keith and Buzarai. Buzarai's book is burnt and he returns to the Mamodo world. Fed up by his inaptness, Elle slaps him and urges him to be brave. Momon then directs the group to Faudo's heart occupied by Heart Guardian, who nonchalantly sends them to the spinal cord where a chart gives them a detailed view of Faudo's biology. Gleaning through the chart, Kiyo notices a fail-safe device that would transfer Faudo to the Mamodo world. Momon advises that the group rest while he memorizes the chart. Zatch manages to dodge Koral-Q's attacks due to his experience in battles and counters with "Zagurzem". Koral-Q realizing the threat of "Zagurzem" attempts to force Kiyo to cast "Bao Zakeruga" by using his strongest attack. The spell is countered by using "Zagurzem" and "Zakeruga". Koral-Q transforms into a robot which controls levitating mirrors strong enough to block "Bao Zakeruga". Kiyo realizes that "Zagurzem" can be used to create a line that guides and increases the power Zatch's spells. Using "Zagurzem" and "Bao Zakeruga", Koral-Q is defeated. Kiyo tells Gorab that friends support their power which allowed them to beat Zofis. Gorab returns home and manages to make friends with his classmates. (en)

Rodeux realizing he will lose, infests Faudo's power into Chita to increase his spells power. Rodeux uses his strongest attack that Wonrei counters it with "Rao Diboren". The exchange of attacks triggers an explosion that catches Wonrei's book. He fades into the Mamodo world, leaving Li-en devastated. (en)
  • Kiyo receives a letter from Kafk Sunbeam who tells him that he has bought and moved into a home near Kiyo's house. Folgore then converses with his opponent while Sunbeam and Sauza regain their strength. His unintelligible singing confounds Elle, who then sings him the proper lyrics of the composition. Feeling insulted, Keith lashes out at Kanchome and Momon in a blind foray until Bari and Gustav appear. Bari then engages Keith in a melee, while the rest of Folgore's group makes their escape. (en)

Fango tells Riou to turn on Faudo's support system which encases the four Mamodo and their respective partners in a glass tube forcing them to battle. Elsewhere, Apollo and Dr. Riddles attempt to find a way to launch an unknown person into Faudo's mouth while it is still in motion. Ted responds that he found her parents already dead and witnessed another Mamodo fleeing the scene. Seeking to make amends, he helps her remember his promise to protect her. At that moment, Faudo's Heart Guardian, sent by Riou, bursts in and attacks the two, burning Cherish's book. She reconciles with Ted as she ascends to the Mamodo world. Ted's book then glows to unveil the spell "Maximum Nagur", by which he vanquishes the Heart Guardian. (en)

At that moment, Momon reveals he has Tia's panties in his hands. Tia enraged by this, orders Megumi to attack Momon. (en)
  • Megumi leaves Tia in the care of Kiyo while she travels around the world for her concert. After playing with Zatch and Ponygon, they head to sleep. While sleeping, Zatch asks Tia why is she so spirited. She starts to tell Zatch what her life was when she first arrived in the Mamodo world. She explains she spent much time searching for her partner and was lonely in the world. One day, she finds her friend Maruss who attacks her. She was found afterward by Megumi who often visited her at the hospital. Tia explains she closed off her heart to people so she could not be betrayed by anyone. When Maruss found out about Tia's location, she leaves the hospital but runs into Megumi who offers to help her. The book glows and Tia realizes Megumi is her book owner. Tia tells Zatch that heart heart healed and she opened her heart to Megumi but it was Zatch and Kiyo that helped her open her heart to others. Tia finishes and realizes Zatch has fallen asleep. (en)
  • Zatch and Kiyo are overwhelmed by Rodeux, his partner Chita, Purio and Lupa. Rein seeing Zatch courageously battle reminds him of the first time he met Zatch. In the past, Rein falls down a cliff and is badly injured. Zatch who was unafraid of Rein helped him recover. Realizing he must be the one to show Kyle courage, Rein starts to ferociously fight Rodeux. During the battle, Rein tells Kyle that even if he is scary, he needs that power to protect. Zatch manages to hit Rodeux with a "Zagurzem" but is caught in Purio and Lupa's spell. Rein attempts to get them out but is badly injured in the process. Kyle seeing Rein in pain picks up his book which starts to glow. (en)
  • As Zeno launches his strongest spell "Zigadiras Zakerga," Megumi reads out the spell "Chajir Seshirdon" which summons angelic entities that shield the protagonists from the attack. She and Tia then faint from exhaustion, forcing Zatch and Kiyo to fight on their own. During the struggle, Kiyo and Dufort argue over the value of friendship and of the world, with Kiyo noting that the latter had not read his mind. Dufort eventually grows frustrated over Kiyo and Zatch's perseverance, prompting him to finally probe Kiyo's thoughts. To his despair, he sees images of Kiyo and Zatch's friends and allies and falls into a psychotic delirium. Now seeing how beneficial Zatch's friends are, Zeno attempts to erase his memories once again, hoping to demoralize him, but he resists. This awakens the power of Bao, which changes his spellbook from red to gold. Panicked, Zeno and Dufort send out "Zigadiras Zakerga," and Zatch and Kiyo counter it with "Bao Zakerga." (en)
  • As the allies contemplate their next move, Zatch and Kiyo are suddenly brought inside the control room by the Zatch lookalike. The Mamodo introduces himself as Zatch's twin brother, Zeno Bell, and confirms that he wiped Zatch's memories and created the apparition at Kiyo's house to goad them. His human partner, Dufort, is revealed to be a telepath who harbors enmity toward society after being forced to live in captivity all his life because of his innate ability, thus has sought Faudo for his ulterior plan to kill off humankind as vengence. Zeno also explains that Zatch embodies a fabled power called Bao , which he believes was wrongfully bequeathed. This sent him on a jealous crusade, which he then takes out on Zatch by beating him relentlessly before taking aim at his book. He is interrupted when Zatch's allies break in and storm the room to defend him. Dufort gauges the minds of the allies and easily overwhelms them with Zeno's spell, incapacitating them—Riya's book is burned in the process. However, Tia becomes so desperate to protect Zatch and the others that the unreadable spell on her book fully materializes, and Megumi prepares to cast it. (en)
  • Guided by Momon, Kiyo, Folgore and their Mamodo rendezvous with the others and have their wounds healed by Tia. She and Megumi then inform Kiyo about their encounter with Wonrei, leading him to deduce that Wonrei had defected to Riou in a desparate bid to rid Li-en of the curse. A villager from Africa named Alishie and his Mamodo Riya approach the team, adding that lacking Buzarai, Riou is no longer able to break Faudo's seal, which will lead to Li-en's death. Kiyo surmises that releasing Faudo is the only way to save her, and that Zatch's spells are a suitable replacement for Buzarai's. To test Zatch's probity, Alishie asks him whether he values Li-en's life or those of everyone on Earth; Zatch replies that he and the others will find a way to save both, which pleases Alishie. He and Riya then join the allies while discussing a means of safely returning Faudo to the Mamodo world. (en)
  • Wonrei acts strangely one day so Li-en follows him. She follows him to a store with a tv and presumes he wants to buy a television. She continues to follow him and sees him with a woman and assumes he is cheating on her. The woman takes Wonrei to a tournament where the last fighter standing wins money. Li-en joins the battle and fights against Wonrei. The woman reveals that she planned to lure Li-en to her so she could kill Li-en and take her position as the heir to the mafia. The woman's minions however are easily defeated by Li-en and Wonrei. Elsewhere, Rodeux discusses with a Mamodo named Riou on how to break Faudo's seal to which Riou replies he has a plan. As Li-en and Wonrei head home, Wonrei reveals he wanted money to buy Li-en new shoes. Li-en receives a package from Kiyo and Zatch and inside are shoes. (en)
  • Jido tells Ted to clean himself up while he gets them lodging. Ted, while fixing his hair, runs into Bari and they quickly become enemies. They soon battle and Ted is overwhelmed. Jido and Gustav arrive to stop the battle, declaring they shall battle atop a mountain in two hours. Once there, Ted and Bari battle, with the former quickly overwhelmed. Ted sees a flower, helping him remember his goal of finding Cherish and regain his motivation to win. Ted's abilities are raised to "Top Gear," and Bari uses his strongest attack to counter it, triggering an explosion. Ted and Bari part ways after the battle ends in an apparent stalemate. Meanwhile, at the Takamine residence, Kiyo and Zatch confer with Megumi and Tia about the mysterious structure and a clan of Mamodo inexplicably gathering there. Kiyo adds that he will use Momon's ability to track down the structure. (en)
  • As Ted and Jido prepare to leave, Jido's motorcycle breaks down, and he send Ted to buy a replacement spark plug. While searching for the bike store with Zatch, Ted smells Cherish's fragrance and spots a girl with long brown hair wearing a hat. He loses sight of her when she crosses the sidewalk. They try to search for her with Ted's description of her scent and Zatch's nose but end up finding other women. Ted and Zatch spots Cherish walking into a department store and search for her in the store. Ted however runs into bullies who drag him away to fight him. Zatch comes and offers the bullies to beat him up in place of Ted so he may search for Cherish. The bullies agree and Ted leaves but returns, feeling unable to abandon a friend, and demonstrates his strength scaring the bullies away in the process. Ted and Zatch find Cherish and realize she was a different person. Jido manages to fix the bike and leaves with Ted who promises he will find Cherish one day. (en)
  • Refusing to do battle, Zaruchim summons Wonrei into his stead, while the allies rebuke him for his apparent duplicity. As the battle rages, Riya notes that Alishie is fighting to protect the people of his home village, just as Wonrei is protecting Li-en's life. Convinced that Wonrei cannot be trusted, Alishie uses a combination of Riya's spells to conceal Kiyo, Elle, Sunbeam and their Mamodo's escape through a hidden passage before losing consciousness again, much to Zaruchim's chagrin. Forced to leave Folgore, Megumi, and their Mamodo in Zaruchim and Wonrei's custody, Kiyo's group heads into a labyrinth of blood vessels. Meanwhile, a debilitated Li-en has a series of flashbacks showing her incurring Riou's curse and being escorted from her farmland by Rodeux and Chita. (en)
  • As Alishie and Riya fight Zaruchim, the latter recounts that his vendetta on Alishie was the result of him vehemently opposing his request to join Riou, for which Zaruchim then threatened another villager's life to compel him. Alishie casts Riya's strongest spell that seemingly defeats Zaruchim but realizes too late that it was a decoy created by Zaruchim's special ability. The real Zaruchim responds with his strongest spell; Riya's attempt to repel it is in vain, putting Alishie in the direct line of fire. However, Ted and Jido intervene, rescuing the allies and injuring Zaruchim, which forces him to flee. Li-en catches up to the group, escorted by Jido who warns Kiyo about the Mamodo they saw on the way in. As the group moves on, a limping Zaruchim is confronted by the Zatch lookalike. (en)
  • As Keith and Bari battle, the former reveals that he bested Bari in a potato tempura eating contest, thence beginning their rivalry. Outside the main control room, Arth and Ellie reach the antechamber where Riou awaits. He uses a nearby control panel to seal off the entrances to the chamber, isolating them from Zatch and his reunited allies. In the ensuing conflict, Arth seemingly overpowers Riou, who then utilizes one of Faudo's features to restore his health completely, and repeats this after each exchange. Realizing that Riou is intentionally wearing Ellie down, Arth braves a barrage of attacks to reach the control panel, successfully reopening the entrances but sacrificing himself to Riou, with Zatch and his allies watching helplessly before avenging Arth. (en)
  • Faudo emerges from the vault as a monstrous being, and Riou merges with a magical gem that grants him symbiotic control over it. However, he is angered when Zatch, Kiyo, and their followers; joined by Li-en, Alishie, Souza, and Ellie; rebuff his demands for their loyalty. Riou attempts to kill the allies with Faudo's laser weapons as reprisal, but is prevented as Kiyo had surreptitiously overridden the weapon controls. After clinging on for five minutes, the allies leap off Faudo as it is jettisoned into the sea over the Kermadec Trench where it begins to sink—part of Kiyo's plan to neutralize it. This backfires when Faudo unexpectedly treads water to float back up. In response, Riou sets it on a collision course with Japan to get back at Kiyo and disables the fail-safe, trapping it on Earth. He escapes onto Faudo as it swims away, leaving the team stranded on the ocean. (en)
  • Kiyo's group encounters the Mamodo Gyaron and his partner Harry. Alishie and Riya engage them, giving Kiyo, Megumi, and their Mamodo a chance to recuperate. Amid the battle, Rodeaux and Chita appear with Li-en as their hostage. Kiyo and Zatch manage to free Li-en, allowing Alishie and Riya to burn Gyaron's book. However, Kiyo quickly recognizes that Li-en is in fact Zaruchim in disguise. Zaruchim deems Rodeux a failure and eliminates him by mutilating his book. He then uses the shadow spell on Kiyo, Megumi, and their Mamodo, wrangling them with the intent on asphyxiating them, which provokes Alishie and Riya into a confrontation. (en)
  • Cornered by Zatch's allies, Riou calls upon his human partner Banikis, revealed to have been hiding inside his maw-like torso. Banikis crawls out to improve his stance for casting spells, which enables Riou to repel the allies and render them unconscious. Zatch's lookalike and his human partner then arrive and challenge Riou, boasting to have burnt Zaruchim's book. Riou obliges but, to his horror, proves no match for the Mamodo, who burns his book and steals the control gem. When Zatch and his allies regain consciousness, the Mamodo and his partner have locked themselves inside the control room with Faudo under their command. Simultaneously, Faudo reaches shallower waters on its continued trek across the ocean toward Japan. (en)
  • While Zeno is at the location of the mysterious structure, Ted continues battling Arth gaining the advantage. Kiyo realizes that Arth's sword absorbs energy which explains Zatch's exhaustion from the battle. Jido casts a spell and Ted's strength and speed increase. Jido reveals Ted's spells increase his power one level at a time but takes time to cast. Ellie decides to use a higher-level spell giving Arth the advantage against Ted. (en)

After a week, Sunbeam prepares to buy some souvenirs before returning home but meets Ponygon on a ranch. They decide go to sight seeing around Hokkaidō. Sunbeam learns from a waitress that the weather has been colder than usual and that there is still snow in the mountains. Sunbeam and Ponygon investigate and are attacked by the Mamodo pair Cardio and Souza. The pair calls Ponygon weak for having allies and proceeds the battle. The match is even until Souza uses a spell "Dogikor Gidoruk" that gives Cardio an upgrade to his armor and the ability to manipulate ice. (en)
  • Kiyo and company regroup with a new plan to deter Faudo by accessing a control module inside its brain. Using Ponygon and Cardio's spells, they catch up to Faudo and re-enter the giant through its mouth. Once inside, they fight their way to the brain structure with a network of tunnels. The party then splits into two groups, each member with their respective Mamodo. Kiyo, accompanied by Alishie, Li-en, and Megumi, runs into Rodeaux and Chita, whom Wonrei and Li-en preoccupy to allow the rest to move ahead. Meanwhile, the second group; consisting of Elle, Ellie, Folgore, Souza, and Sunbeam; encounters Jedon and Fango. Unbeknownst to the allies, Zatch's lookalike and his partner have been watching from afar. (en)

While there, Kiyo, Megumi, Tia and Dr. Riddles run away from paparazzi who are after Megumi. Zatch and Big Boing end up at a lost child centre. Once there, three armed men enter the lost child's centre in an attempt to escape from the authorities. Big Boing and Zatch defeat the armed men and save the people in the child centre. After finding Folgore and Li-en they head to Sunbeams house. Dr. Riddles reveals that the key to the structure is in Big Boings dance. Kanchome realizes what the structure is but keeps quiet fearing the team will investigate it if they find out what it is. (en)
  • The allies infiltrate Faudo's body, all the while noting that it is both mechanical and organic. They reach the stomach where they encounter a childish guardian named Unko Tintin, who challenges each member of the group with a trivial riddle that they must solve in order to pass; otherwise, they would be dropped into a pit of acid below. After solving his own, Kiyo helps each member of the team correctly answer the riddles until only Ponygon is left. Unko asks him to prove Fermat's Last Theorem, which outrages Kiyo as Ponygon cannot speak. Unko relents and issues Ponygon an easier riddle, which he answers correctly by swinging his tail. The allies move on from the stomach without further incident; however, in the small intestine they set off a booby trap that activates a giant mechanized drill. (en)
  • With the drill in pursuit, the allies run while dodging tentacles that dissolve anything they touch. Kiyo discovers holes on the intestine walls that lead to the liver but only open right before the drill passes over them. With the passageway curving uphill, Alishie attempts to hinder the drill with Riya's spells, but he hesitates and cringes in pain. This prompts Elle to cast Momon's spell that slows the drill enough for the group to escape safely into the liver. There, they are encountered by Wonrei and another Mamodo named Zaruchim, who reveals that Alishie is afflicted with Riou's curse and using Zatch as fodder for saving his own life. When the ailing Alishie passes out, Zaruchim constrains the allies with a spell that turns each member's own shadow on them. Alishie then regains consciousness and frees them from the spell, although Folgore, Kanchome, Megumi, and Tia are restrained by rope. Alishie and Riya then prepare to battle Zaruchim. (en)
  • Ponygon's is overwhelmed by Cardio's attacks. Cardio then freezes Sunbeams legs to prevent him from moving. As they attempt to reach Sunbeam for the book, Ponygon grabs onto Cardio. Ponygon's determination causes the book to reveal a new spell "Diomur Shudoruk" which gives Ponygon new armor and the ability to manipulate fire. Ponygon is hesitant to use his ability since he is inexperienced in controlling the flames which causes Sunbeam to be burned. Sunbeam tells Ponygon to not worry about controlling the flames and tells him he should just fight with his heart. Ponygon, remembering his promise to Zatch, manages to control the flames and escape with Sunbeam. Souza and Cardio amazed with Ponygon's control of the flames, decide not to pursue them. (en)

The goddess absorbs Tia's anger and hate and increases the power of the sword. Using "Chajir Saifodon" Momon is defeated. Elle asks if they will burn Momon's book. (en)
