- Leòstenes (en llatí Leosthenes, en grec antic Λεωσθένης "Leosthénes") fou un almirall atenenc que va dirigir la flota i l'exèrcit d'Atenes a les Cíclades el 361 aC. Es va deixar sorprendre per Alexandre tirà de Feres, i va ser derrotat, perdent cinc trirrems i 600 homes, per la qual cosa a la tornada va ser condemnat a mort pels atenencs, com a càstig pel seu fracàs. - Ο Λεωσθένης ήταν ρήτορας και πολιτικός των Αθηνών. Το 361 π.Χ. στάλθηκε σε αποστολή για την απελευθέρωση της νήσου Πεπαρήθου (της σημερινής Σκοπέλου) που την πρωτεύουσά της Πάνορμο πολιορκούσε ο Αλέξανδρος ο Φεραίος. Ο Αλέξανδρος ηττήθηκε από τον Λεωσθένη και αναγκάστηκε να κλειστεί στην ακρόπολη (φρούριο). Αργότερα ο Αλέξανδρος, επωφελούμενος από την ελάττωση της αθηναϊκής δύναμης λόγω αποστολής μοίρας σε άλλο προορισμό και της χαλάρωσης των μέτρων επιτήρησης των πολιορκητών, επιχείρησε νικηφόρο έξοδο και ανακατέλαβε το νησί. Οι Αθηναίοι θεώρησαν υπεύθυνο τον Λεωσθένη και τον καταδίκασαν σε θάνατο, εκείνος όμως κατέφυγε στη Μακεδονία και λέγεται ότι πέθανε στην αυλή του βασιλιά Φιλίππου της Μακεδονίας. (el)

Chr. im Gebiet der Kykladen gegen Alexander von Pherai vorging, mit dem Athen wegen dessen Vorgehen gegen die thessalischen Städte im Krieg lag. Alexander gelang gegen die athenische Flotte ein Überraschungsangriff, der diese 5 Triremen und 600 Mann kostete. Leosthenes überlebte die Schlacht, wurde aber von den Athenern wegen dieser Niederlage zum Tode verurteilt und hingerichtet. (de)
