- La leonardita és un mineraloide producte de l'oxidació del lignit. És tou, cerós i vitri de color negre o marró. Està associat a la mineria del carbó prop de la superfície. És una font rica en àcid húmic (fins al 90%) i es fa servir com condicionador del sòl i com estabilitzador en el tractament de l'aigua mitjançant resines de bescanvi iònic, en la remediació d'ambients contaminats i com additiu per a perforar pous. Rep el nom d'A. G. Leonard, el primer director del North Dakota Geological Survey, en reconeixement al seu treball en aquests jaciments. (ca)
- Leonardit ist ein weiches, wachsartig glänzendes und durchscheinendes Mineraloid, das sich leicht in Laugen lösen lässt. Als Oxidationsprodukt von Lignit befindet es sich in oberflächennahen Braunkohleschichten. Leonardit ist reich an Huminsäuren (bis zu 90 %) und wird als Bodenverbesserer, zur Sanierung kontaminierter Böden und als Hilfsmittel in der Bohrindustrie verwendet. Leonardit wurde nach benannt, dem Leiter der North Dakota Geological Survey, zur Würdigung seiner Arbeit auf dem Gebiet. (de)
- Leonardite is a soft waxy, black or brown, shiny, vitreous mineraloid that is easily soluble in alkaline solutions. It is an oxidation product of lignite, associated with near-surface mining. It is a rich source of humic acid (up to 90%) and is used as a soil conditioner, as a stabilizer for ion-exchange resins in water treatment, in the remediation of polluted environments and as a drilling additive. It was named after A. G. Leonard, first director of the North Dakota Geological Survey, in recognition of his work on these deposits. (en)
