- The Kapiti Coast District is a local government district of the Wellington Region in the lower North Island of New Zealand, 50 km north of Wellington City. The district is named after Kapiti Island, a prominent island 5 km offshore. The population of the district is concentrated in the chain of coastal settlements along State Highway One: Ōtaki, Te Horo, Waikanae, Paraparaumu, Raumati Beach, Raumati South, and Paekākāriki. Paraparaumu is the most populous of these towns and the commercial and administrative centre. Much of the rural land is given over to horticulture; market gardens are common along the highway between the settlements. The area available for agriculture and settlement is narrow and coastal. Much of the eastern part of the district is within the Tararua Forest Park, which covers the rugged Tararua Range, with peaks rising to over 1500 m. (en)

Il occupe grande partie de la région côtière appelée (en) une région plus ambiguë et moins bien définie qui s'étend plus ou moins depuis Porirua jusqu'à la côte du district de Horowhenua. Le nom du district est tiré de l'île de Kapiti, une île à quelques kilomètres de la côte. Certains habitants des districts situés au nord et au sud du district de Kapiti Coast se considèrent habitants de la côte de Kapiti parce que cette île est bien visible depuis leur côte. Le district s'étend sur 731,25 km2. Administrativement partie de la région de Wellington, il est en grande partie socialement distinct de Wellington et de la vallée du Hutt. Beaucoup de ses habitants travaillent dans la capitale, et de nombreux Néo-Zélandais choisissent d'y passer leur retraite. Parmi les villes les plus importantes du district on trouve Paekakariki, Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae et Otaki, ainsi que d'autres, plus petites, comme Maungakotukutuku, et Peka Peka.
