- Das Kungoni Centre of Culture and Art, kurz Kungoni Centre, ist eine Non-Profit-Organisation in Zentral-Malawi. Es liegt im Dedza-Distrikt beim Dorf Mua und ist ungefähr 60 km von Salima entfernt. Das Kungoni Centre wurde von dem Missionar Pater Boucher Chisale gegründet, um den einheimischen Schnitzern eine Lebensgrundlage zu geben und um sie besser auszubilden. Mittlerweile hat sich die kungonische Schnitzkunst erheblich weiterentwickelt und einen weltweit ausgezeichneten Ruf erworben. Neben der Schnitzerei gibt es im Kungoni Centre auch einen Kulturbereich, der das Chamare-Museum, das Research Centre, malawische Stammestänze und Kulturkurse umfasst. Das Zentrum bietet Arbeitsplätze für über 120 Schnitzer und versucht in dem neuen Projekt Kumbewu auch für Frauen neue sozio-ökonomische Entwicklungen in Gang zu setzen. (de)

Kungoni is both easily accessible, being about two hoursdrive on bitumen from Lilongwe and three from Blantyre. Kungoni sits a littleabove the lake plain, with views to the lake in one direction and the AfricanRift Valley escarpment in the other. The site is landscaped and planted as abotanic garden with a variety of tropical trees and shrubs. (en)
