- Die Kawasaki ZXR400 ist ein Supersport-Motorrad des japanischen Herstellers Kawasaki mit 398 cm3 Hubraum. Sie ist die kleine Schwester der ZXR750. Die 400er wurde von 1989 bis 1999 gebaut, in Deutschland aber erst ab 1991 verkauft, rund 6.500 Mal. Bis 1997 stieg der Neupreis kontinuierlich von rund 12.000 bis auf 15.500 Mark an. Als Gebrauchtmotorrad ist sie immer noch sehr beliebt und im Vergleich zu den gebrauchten "jüngeren" 600ern recht teuer. Das Motorrad ist sehr leicht anhand der "Ram-Air-(Staubsauger)-Schläuche" und des Heckspoilers wiederzuerkennen. Die ZXR400 wiegt fahrfertig und vollgetankt 40 Kilogramm weniger als die ZXR 750 (185 zu 225 Kilogramm). Der geringe Hub von 39 Millimeter bei 57 Millimetern Bohrung ist eher selten. (de)

It was one of the first and most popular of the 400 cubic centimetres (24 cu in) sport bikes that swept across Japan and later Europe in the 1990s. It was discontinued in 1999 in worldwide markets but remain until 2003 in United Kingdom. The H model was produced first, and was superseded by the L series in 1991. The L series had increased power output, but less torque, and updated slimmer rear styling. An earlier model called the ZX-4 was released as a Japan only model from 1987-1988. (en)

- La ZXR 400 è una motocicletta stradale prodotta dalla Kawasaki dal 1989 fino al 1999, almeno per il mercato europeo. Ne esiste anche una versione di cilindrata maggiorata a 750 cm³, la ZXR 750 ed una di cilindrata minore, la Kawasaki ZXR 250. Le prime versioni erano accompagnate dalla sigla "H", le successive dalla lettera "L"; tutte comunque disponevano di una carenatura protettiva. La ZXR 400 monta un motore di 398cm³ 4 cilindri in linea che eroga 60 cv, con distribuzione a 16 valvole con catena in bagno d'olio.Pesa 165 kg. Alimentazione a carburatori. La trasmissione primaria vede un cambio a 6 marce e la finale a catena. L'impostazione sportiva è data dalla posizione di guida caricata sull'avantreno e dalla strumentazione ridotta all'essenziale: contagiri, tachimetro, temperatura acqua, tutto ovviamente analogico e completato solo da un gruppo di spie di funzionamento.
