- József Romhányi (* 8. März 1921 in Budapest; † 7. Mai 1983 ebenda) war ein ungarischer Schriftsteller, Drehbuchautor und Librettist. Romhányi besuchte die Musikschule von Budapest. 1951 wurde er Dramaturg beim Ungarischen Rundfunk. Von 1960 bis 1962 wirkte er als künstlerischer Leiter der Unterhaltungsabteilung des ungarischen Fernsehens, danach bis zu seinem Tod als Dramaturg der Musikabteilung des Ungarischen Rundfunks. Romhányi verfasste Drehbücher zur Zeichentrickfilmen wie Vuk (Vuk – der kleine Fuchs, mit Attila Dargay und ) und -serien wie A Mézga család különös kalandjai (Adolars phantastische Abenteuer bzw. Archibald, der Weltraumtrotter), Vakáción a Mézga-család" und Kérem a következőt!. Weiterhin übersetzte er die Libretti von Christoph Willibald Glucks Orfeo ed Euridice, Gioachino Rossinis Graf Ory und Carl Orffs Die Kluge, schrieb die Texte zu Rezső Sugárs Oratorien Hunyadi und Höse ének und Libretti zu den Opern Báthory Zsigmond von Zoltán Horusitzky, Muzsikus Péter von György Ránki und Légy jó mindhalálig von Ferenc Szabó. - József Romhányi (8 March 1921 – 7 May 1983) was a Hungarian writer, poet, translator, and artist. Originally he wanted to be a musician and learned viola in the Székesfővárosi Felsőbb Zenei Iskola musical school. From 1951 he worked as a playreader on Hungarian Radio, and in 1957 he became the director of the art department of the Hungarian State Concert and Programme Directorate. Between 1960 and 1962 he was the director of the popular art section of Hungarian Television. From 1962 he was a playreader in the Main Musical Department of Hungarian Radio. He wrote several librettos for Hungarian operas, including Hunyady for Rezső Sugár (1953), Báthory Zsigmond for (1960), and Muzsikus Péter for György Ránki (1963). He translated several operas and musicals into Hungarian; the best known is Cats. He wrote scripts for the cartoons Lúdas Matyi and Hófehér. He is known for his animal poems that were released after his death with the title Szamárfül ("Earmark" and "Ear of a Donkey"). He is perhaps best known for the scripts of various Hungarian cartoon series, including Mézga Család (The Gums), the Kérem a következőt! ("Next, please!" or "Dr. Bubo", 1973–74) and some translations for dubbed versions of American cartoons, like the rhyming translation of The Flintstones and of Huckleberry Hound. He was nicknamed "Romhányi, a rímhányó", a rhyme meaning "Romhanyi the Rhyme-Thrower". (en)

Był tłumaczem librett, sporządził przekład Kotów opartych na wierszach autorstwa T.S. Eliota. Tworzył również teksty do utworów operowych, m.in. Báthory Zsigmond (1960, ) i Muzsikus Péter (1963, ). Był także scenarzystą i dialogistą seriali animowanych – cyklu Mézga család i Kérem a következőt (Dr. Bubó) oraz tłumaczem kreskówek zagranicznych (m.in. Flintstonów). W 1983 r. ukazał się jego tomik poezji pt. Szamárfül. W tym samym roku otrzymał tytuł honorowy zasłużonego artysty (érdemes művész). (pl)
