Jurassic Park is a techno-thriller novel written by Michael Crichton that was published in 1990. Often considered a cautionary tale on unconsidered biological tinkering in the same spirit as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, it uses the mathematical concept of chaos theory and its philosophical implications to explain the collapse of an amusement park showcasing certain genetically recreated dinosaur species. It was adapted into a film in 1993.

A seguito del successo, nel 1993, ne è stato tratto un film dagli incassi multi-milionari, Jurassic Park, che ha avuto un seguito, Il mondo perduto - Jurassic Park (1997). Il libro ha riscosso un notevole successo (solo in Italia ha venduto oltre 500.000 copie) e nel 1993, l'adattamento cinematografica di Steven Spielberg ha incassato 920 milioni di dollari, ponendolo fra i maggiori 10 incassi di tutti i tempi. Nell'edizione SuperPocket, il libro ha 477 pagine. Il libro ha oltretutto sollevato importanti questioni a livello scientifico. L'idea di clonare dinosauri partendo dal DNA conservato nelle zanzare fossilizzate è stata presa in considerazione da molti scienziati, ma oggi tuttavia è ritenuta alquanto improbabile. Per quanto le spiegazioni scientifiche fornite da Crichton nell'opera sembrino plausibili, anche per il fatto che si è documentato ampiamente, non sono da ritenersi del tutto vere. A questo proposito si può ricordare come una delle sequenze genetiche che l'autore mostra nel romanzo, attribuita ad un dinosauro, in realtà è quella di un batterio. A fare questo "scherzo" a Crichton è stato, a sua insaputa, uno degli scienziati a cui si è rivolto per la stesura del libro. Va comunque detto che l'autore stesso, nei ringraziamenti, specifica chiaramente che "[...] questo libro è completamente inventato [...]", non pretendendo pertanto alcun valore scientifico." (it)
