- July Morning ist eine Tradition in Bulgarien (Bulgarisch: Джулая oder Джулай), die ein Überbleibsel aus der Zeit der Hippies der 70er-Jahre ist. Die Besucher reisen in der Nacht vom 30. Juni oft als Tramper an die Küste des Schwarzen Meeres, um den Sonnenaufgang am Morgen des ersten Juli zu erleben. Traditionell wird dabei das Lied July Morning vom Album Look at Yourself der britischen Hardrock-Band Uriah Heep gespielt und von den Besuchern mitgesungen. Obwohl die Hippie-Bewegung allgemein und auch dieser Brauch aus den USA stammt, fand die Tradition großen Anklang in Bulgarien und wird bis heute mit großer Beliebtheit fortgeführt. Offiziell wird die Veranstaltung erst seit 1992 abgehalten, zwei Jahre nach dem Ende des Sozialismus in Osteuropa und Russland. - July Morning is an annual Bulgarian festival, celebrated on the night before and the first day of July. The festival is unique to Bulgaria but it is not universally observed in the country. In the days before the first day of July, people from across Bulgaria travel (often hitchhiking) to the Black Sea coast to meet the first sun rays on the first day of July. People gather around fires, play music and wait for the sunrise. There is no mandatory ritual, ceremony or rite for this tradition and it is up to participants' discretion how they spend the night before July 1st. On many locations, there are concerts with professional and amateur bands. Camping at the locations of choice for the July Morning celebration is also very popular. Initially, celebrants gathered on Pier 1 in Port of Varna East; now the vigil takes place on beaches as well. In recent years, it has spread to Kamen Bryag, Kavarna, Shkorpilovtsi, Irakli, Burgas, Sozopol, Varvara, Ahtopol, Chernomorets as well as the whole Bulgarian Black Sea coast. There were many attempts to commercialise the tradition by various parties – municipal authorities, concert promoters, etc. – trying to organise July Morning festivals and specials. All such attempts failed, possibly due to the lack of a single location of celebrations, or commercial organisations failing to condemn some of the celebrations' more "questionable" activities. Most recently, in 2012 some 12,000 people met the sunrise at Kamen Bryag where the song "July Morning" was performed by ex-Uriah Heep's singer John Lawton. (en)
- July morning (Dzjulaj) är en årlig musikfestival i Bulgarien som uppstod i mitten av 1980-talet som en reaktion mot kommunismen och den existerar fortfarande. 30 juni åker man österut till Svarta havet för att vänta tills de första solstrålarna visar sig över havet nästa morgon.Festen är uppkallad efter Uriah Heeps sång från 1971 July Morning. Festen var i sitt ursprung förknippad med hippietraditionen. Den var en protest mot kommunismens inskränkningar. Folk samlades på stranden för att uppleva ögonblick av frihet och rening inför solen. Detta är tydligt uttryckt i själva sången 'July Morning' som är symbol för all den förbjudna musiken under kommunismen. Under de sista åren har festen fått ännu större tyngd med konserter som organiseras vid havskusten. 2007 kom Uriah Heeps före detta sångare John Lawton till havsbyn Kamen Bryag för att för första gången presentera sången i original. År 2008 såg man bandets keybordspelare Ken Hensley som var den som skrev sången. John Lawton återvände 2009 och man lyssnade på 'July Morning' en gång till vid havet i väntan på de första strålarna.
