There he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the men's 4.000m team pursuit, alongside Adrie Voorting, Daan de Groot and Jan Plantaz. In the men's individual road Maenen did not finish. He was a professional road cyclist from 1952 to 1958, claiming the silver medal at the Dutch National Road Championship in 1957, behind Wim van Est. (en)
