- Jules Baillaud (* 14. Januar 1876 in Paris; † 28. November 1960) war ein französischer Astronom. Von 1900 bis 1904 war er Assistent in Lyon und von 1904 bis 1925 Assistent am Pariser Observatorium, wo er von 1925 bis 1947 als Astronom arbeitete. Von 1937 bis 1947 war er Direktor der Sternwarte Pic du Midi und von 1922 bis 1947 Direktor des Carte du Ciel. 1938 erhielt er den Jules-Janssen-Preis. 1952 wurde er zum Mitglied der Académie des sciences gewählt. Der Asteroid (1280) Baillauda gilt entgegen der ursprünglichen Absicht des Entdeckers laut dem Committee on Small Body Nomenclature (CSBN) der Internationalen Astronomischen Union (IAU) als ihm zu Ehren benannt, während der Mondkrater Baillaud und der Asteroid (11764) Benbaillaud seinem Vater Benjamin Baillaud gewidmet sind. Initially assistant astronomer in Lyon (1900–1904) and at the Paris observatory: assistant astronomer until 1925, he went on as astronomer from 1925 to 1947. From 1937 to 1947 he was also the director of the Pic du Midi observatory and directed the Carte du Ciel from 1922 to 1947. Baillaud was the President of the Société astronomique de France (SAF), the French astronomical society, from 1935-1937. In 1938, he received the Prix Jules Janssen, the Society's highest award. The asteroid (1280) Baillauda is named in his memory, while the Baillaud crater on the moon, and Baillaud asteroid (11764) Benbaillaud, were named after his father Benjamin Baillaud. (en)
