- On the afternoon of 24 May 2014, a gunman opened fire at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels, killing four people. Three of them, an Israeli couple on holiday and a French woman, died at the scene. The fourth victim, a Belgian employee of the museum, was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries on 6 June. A little less than a week later, on 30 May 2014, a suspect was arrested in the French city of Marseille in connection with the shooting. The suspect was Mehdi Nemmouche, a 29-year-old French national of Algerian origin. A second suspect, Nacer Bendrer, was identified and arrested later. Prior to the shooting, Nemmouche had already spent time in French prisons, where he became involved in radical Islam. After his imprisonment, he also spent more than a year in Syria. It is also in prison where he met Bendrer, who was suspected of having supplied Nemmouche with the weapons used in the attack. Investigators identified a third suspect as well, but the charges against the third suspect were later dismissed due to the evidence against him being considered too weak. Nemmouche and Bendrer were formally indicted in April 2018, and tried before the court of assizes of Brussels in early 2019. After two months of trial hearings, a verdict was rendered: Nemmouche was found guilty of having committed the attack, whilst Bendrer was found guilty of being the co-author of the attack by having supplied Nemmouche with the weapons used in the attack. The theory that Nemmouche was framed by foreign intelligence officials, put forward by Nemmouche's defence, was rejected. Subsequently, Nemmouche was sentenced to life imprisonment whilst Bendrer was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment. Both were later also sentenced to pay close to one million euro in damages to the victims' next of kin. (en)

A las 15:50 hora local un hombre armado irrumpió en el museo, matando a cuatro personas. Tres de ellas murieron en el acto, mientras que otra falleció en el hospital el 6 de junio como consecuencia de las heridas. El 30 de mayo de ese mismo año, Mehdi Nemmouche, ciudadano francés de 29 años de origen argelino, fue arrestado en Marsella por su presunta relación con el atentado de Bruselas. Las autoridades aseguraron que el sospechoso había pasado más de un año en Siria, tiempo durante el cual había tenido contactos con radicales islamistas y pudo haber sido filmado en un vídeo portando una bandera del Estado Islámico de Irak y el Levante. - L’attentat du musée juif de Belgique est un attentat terroriste islamiste qui a eu lieu le samedi 24 mai 2014 à Bruxelles. Un homme, après être entré dans l'édifice, abat quatre personnes à l'aide d'un revolver puis d'un fusil d'assaut. Le 30 mai, un suspect, Mehdi Nemmouche, est arrêté à Marseille en possession d'armes de guerre. Il s'agit d'un Français d'origine algérienne, condamné pour plusieurs délits et soupçonné de s'être radicalisé en prison puis d'avoir rejoint l'État islamique en Irak et au Levant, le principal groupe étranger participant à la guerre civile syrienne. La justice belge demande son extradition le 2 juin. Le 14 juin, le musée juif se constitue partie civile. L'attentat du musée juif de Bruxelles est la première attaque perpétrée par l'organisation terroriste État islamique en Occident. Le procès commence le 7 janvier 2019. Le 12 mars 2019, Mehdi Nemmouche est condamné à la réclusion criminelle à perpétuité. Nacer Bendrer, co-auteur des faits est condamné à 15 ans de réclusion criminelle. (fr)

De Franse douane arresteerde op 30 mei 2014 in Marseille Mehdi Nemmouche, de 29-jarige Franse dader. Hij werd op 12 maart 2019 veroordeeld tot levenslang. Zijn mededader Nacer Bendrer, die de wapens had geleverd, kreeg vijftien jaar opsluiting. (nl)

Gärningsmannen gick mot museets entré och öppnade eld med en revolver och dödade ett äldre gift par ifrån Israel. Sedan tog han fram en automatkarbin ur sin ryggsäck, gick in i entrén och öppnade eld mot två som bemannade receptionen varvid en fransyska som jobbade som volontär på museet dödades omedelbart och en ung man på 25 år, anställd på museet, sårades svårt. Därefter lämnade terroristen brottsplatsen till fots. Den unge receptionisten som sårats svårt föll i koma och avled på sjukhuset den 6 juni samma år. (sv)
