- L'any 1971 es disputà la darrera edició de la Copa de les Ciutats en Fires. La UEFA organitzà un encontre entre el primer vencedor de la competició, el Futbol Club Barcelona i el darrer vencedor, el Leeds United, per a decidir quin clubs s'emportava el trofeu en propietat. A més, cal notar que els dos clubs eren els que més títols havien aconseguit a la competició (tres el Barça i dos el Leeds, aquest darrer empatat amb el València CF que també en tenia dos). (ca)
- The last Inter-Cities Fairs Cup edition was contested in the 1970–71 season before it was abolished and replaced by the UEFA Cup, a new seasonal confederation competition. The Fairs Cup trophy had not been won by any club permanently, so it was arranged a one match play-off game between the first and last competition winners: CF Barcelona and Leeds United, respectively. Consistió de un partido disputado en el estadio Camp Nou de la ciudad de Barcelona el 22 de septiembre entre el FC Barcelona y el Leeds United, primer y último ganador del torneo, respectivamente, con tres y dos títulos, para dilucidar quién ostentaría el trofeo en propiedad. - De laatste editie van het toernooi om de Jaarbeursstedenbeker werd gehouden in het seizoen 1970/71. Hierna werd het toernooi vervangen door de UEFA Cup. Om te bepalen wie de originele beker van het toernooi mocht houden werd een beslissingswedstrijd georganiseerd. Op 22 september 1971 werd deze wedstrijd gehouden tussen drievoudig winnaar en eenmalig verliezend finalist FC Barcelona, dat onder leiding stond van de Nederlandse trainer Rinus Michels, en de winnaar van de laatste editie Leeds United. In Camp Nou won FC Barcelona met 2-1 en mocht hierdoor de originele beker houden. Teófilo Dueñas scoorde beide doelpunten voor Barcelona, Joe Jordan scoorde voor Leeds. (nl)

Do tego czasu stare trofeum nie zostało zdobyte przez dowolny klub na stałe. Utworzony został w celu zdobycia Pucharu Miast Targowych na własność, tak jak od następnego sezonu 1971/1972 Puchar Miast Targowych został zastąpiony Pucharem UEFA. Europejska Federacja Piłkarska nie uznaje jednak Pucharu Miast Targowych za jej oficjalny turniej, a tym samym Pucharu UEFA za jego bezpośrednią kontynuację. (pl)
