- Inkwell (auch kurz Ink genannt) ist ein Programm zur Handschrifterkennung, das voll in das Textsystem von Apples Mac OS X integriert ist. Es wurde mit Mac OS X 10.2 eingeführt. Inkwell unterstützt die englische, französische und deutsche Sprache. Inkwell wurde von Brandyn Webb entwickelt, basiert jedoch ursprünglich auf Rosetta, einer Technik, die auf dem PDA Newton von Apple vorhanden war. Inkwell funktioniert nur mit einem Grafiktablett als Eingabegerät. Ist dieses Grafiktablett mit dem Computer verbunden, können in der Systemsteuerung alle Einstellungen zur Bedienung von Inkwell festgelegt werden. Ist Inkwell aktiviert, erscheint ein halbtransparentes, dynamisch mitwachsendes gelbes Notizfenster, in das der Benutzer schreiben kann. Nach Ende der Eingabe wird der erkannte Text automatisch in das aktuell aktive Programm eingefügt. Bei nicht aktivierter Handschriftenerkennung kann zum Beispiel alternativ eine handgezeichnete Skizze in das aktive Programm eingefügt werden. Anfang 2008 stellte der Computer-Hersteller das Tablet-Notebook ModBook vor. Das ModBook ist das erste Touchscreen-Notebook, das Inkwell benutzt. (de)
- Inkwell, or simply Ink, is the name of the handwriting recognition technology developed by Apple Inc. and built into the Mac OS X operating system. Introduced in an update to Mac OS X v10.2 "Jaguar", Inkwell can translate English, French, and German writing. The technology made its debut as "Rosetta", an integral feature of Apple Newton OS, the operating system of the short-lived Apple Newton personal digital assistant. Inkwell's inclusion in Mac OS X led many to believe Apple would be using this technology in a new PDA or other portable tablet computer. None of the touchscreen iOS devices – iPhone/iPod/iPad – has offered Inkwell handwriting recognition. However in iPadOS 14 handwriting recognition has been introduced, as a feature called Scribble. Inkwell, when activated, appears as semi-transparent yellow lined paper, on which the user sees their writing appear. When the user stops writing, their writing is interpreted by Inkwell and pasted into the current application (wherever the active text cursor is), as if the user had simply typed the words. The user can also force Inkwell to not interpret their writing, instead using it to paste a hand-drawn sketch into the active window. Inkwell was developed by Larry Yaeger, Brandyn Webb, and Richard Lyon. In macOS 10.14 Mojave, Apple announced that Inkwell will remain 32-bit thus rendering it incompatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. It was officially discontinued with the release of macOS Catalina on October 7, 2019. (en)

- Inkwell, che ultimamente ha preso il nome di Ink, è la tecnologia di riconoscimento della scrittura che è inclusa nei computer prodotti dalla Apple Inc. con installato macOS. Fu introdotto insieme a Mac OS X Jaguar. Inkwell riconosce la scrittura nella lingua inglese, nella lingua francese e nella lingua tedesca. Inkwell è basato sulla tecnologia del PDA Apple Newton chiamata ''. L'inclusione di Inkwell in una versione di Mac OS X fece credere a molti che Apple volesse utilizzare questa tecnologia per un nuovo PDA o un'altra tablet computer. Inkwell quando è attivo appare come un foglio semi-trasparente, sul quale l'utente vede la sua scrittura apparire. Quando l'utente smette di scrivere, la sua scrittura viene riconosciuta da Inkwell e inclusa nell'applicazione attiva (nel punto in cui è collocato il cursore), come se l'utente avesse semplicemente scritto le parole con la tastiera.
