- El patrimoni industrial és tota aquella resta material o immaterial producte de la societat industrial-capitalista. La principal disciplina que estudia aquest patrimoni és l'arqueologia industrial. Encara que no hi ha unanimitat en la definició del terme, ja que es tracta d'una disciplina molt jove, segons el TICCIH (The International Committee For The Conservation Of The Industrial Heritage), el patrimoni industrial es compon de les restes de la cultura industrial que posseeixen un valor històric, tecnològic, social, arquitectònic o científic. Aquestes restes consisteixen en edificis i maquinària, tallers, molins i fàbriques, mines i llocs per processar i refinar, magatzems i dipòsits, llocs on es genera, es transmet i s'usa energia, mitjans de transport i tota la seva infraestructura, així com els llocs on es desenvolupen les activitats socials relacionades amb la indústria, tals com l'habitatge, el culte religiós o l'educació. Tal com recull la Ponència desenvolupada per diversos membres de l'Associació Basca de Patrimoni Industrial i Obra Pública, el Patrimoni Industrial abraçaria “qualsevol construcció o estructura fixa o d'un altre tipus pertanyent especialment al període de la Revolució Industrial que, bé per si sols, bé en conjunt amb instal·lacions o equipaments essencials, il·lustren el naixement o el desenvolupament de processos industrials o tècnics”. El Patrimoni Industrial, per tant, abasta no només els immobles (fàbriques, tallers, molins, etc.) estructures arquitectòniques i maquinària de producció (naus, xemeneies, locomotores...), sinó també les vies de transport i comunicació per arribaven les matèries primeres i es comercialitzaven els productes (ponts, ferrocarrils, estacions, casetes de peons caminers, etc.), les residències (barris obrers i cases burgeses), centres associatius i assistencials dels treballadors (ateneus, hospitals, sanatoris, etc.), els serveis públics de sanejament urbà (mercats, escoles, escorxadors, cementiris...) i, en última instància, els mateixos paisatges modificats per l'activitat extractiva i industrial. - Industrial heritage refers to the physical remains of the history of technology and industry, such as manufacturing and mining sites, as well as power and transportation infrastructure. Another definition expands this scope so that the term also covers places used for social activities related to industry such as housing, museums, education or religious worship, among other structures with values from a variety of fields in order to highlight the interdisciplinary character of industrial heritage. It is also argued that it includes the so-called sociofacts or aspects of social and institutional organizations, and mentifacts that constitute the attitudinal characteristics and value systems industrial heritage sites. Industrial heritage) — культурное наследие, отражающее развитие массового индустриального производства, которое относится к периоду с конца XVIII века до середины XX века. К индустриальному наследию принято относить здания заводов, вокзалов, различные агрегаты и механизмы, построенные как по индивидуальному заказу, так и согласно массовым проектам. Так же к этой категории относится инфраструктура, транспорт, элементы социальной организации, связанные с производством, места переработки энергии. Если в настоящее время для многих объектов материального культурного наследия применяют такие критерии как эстетичность и уникальность, то материальное наследие индустриального периода ценится прежде всего как документальное доказательство нетипичности данного периода в человеческой истории. Изучение и восстановление индустриального наследия помогает понять индустриализацию — одно из наиболее значительных явлений в истории каждой достаточно развитой в настоящее время страны. (ru)
