- كانت بداية «موسوعة بريتانيكا» الشهيرة عام 1768، حيث بدأت تُنشر بشكل متواصل منذ هذا التاريخ، وصدرت في خمسة عشر طبعة رسمية، وقد عُدلت عدة طبعات بإضافة «ملاحق» متعددة المجلدات (كالطبعات الثالثة والخامسة والسادسة) أو أُلفت من طبعات سابقة مُضاف لها ملاحق (كالطبعات العاشرة والثانية عشرة والثالثة عشر) أو خضعت لإعادة تنظيم جذرية (الطبعة الخامسة عشر). طُورت في السنوات الأخيرة النسخ الرقمية من موسوعة بريتانيكا سواء كانت نسخًا على شبكة الإنترنت أو على وسائل الإعلام البصرية. - La Enciclopedia británica se ha publicado ininterrumpidamente desde 1768, apareciendo en 15 ediciones oficiales. Varias ediciones se han modificado con varios volúmenes «suplementarios» (del 3.º al 6.º) o sufrido drásticas reorganizaciones (15.º). En los últimos años, las versiones digitales de la Enciclopedia británica se han desarrollado, tanto en línea como en discos ópticos. Desde la década de 1931, la Enciclopedia británica ha desarrollado varios spin-off de productos para aprovechar su reputación como una obra de referencia fiable y una herramienta educativa.La Enciclopedia, tal como se conocía hasta 2012, resultaba económicamente inviable, por lo que se puso fin las ediciones impresas, manteniendo su continuidad digital. Several editions have been amended with multi-volume "supplements" (3rd, 5th/6th), consisted of previous editions with added supplements (10th, and 12th/13th) or gone drastic re-organizations (15th). In recent years, digital versions of the Britannica have been developed, both online and on optical media. Since the early 1930s, the Britannica has developed several "spin-off" products to leverage its reputation as a reliable reference work and educational tool.
