Sie ist der nördliche Abschnitt der Staatsstraße 2288 (kurz St 2288), ist 25 Kilometer lang, führt über die zentrale Hochfläche der Rhön, Lange Rhön genannt, und ist eine wichtige Verkehrsverbindung in der Hochrhön.
