Henry I (died 3 July 964) was the Archbishop of Trier from 956 until his death. Henry was a member of the House of Babenberg. His brother was Poppo I, Bishop of Würzburg, and another possible brother was the Berthold of Schweinfurt. Henry was trained with Wolfgang, the future saint and Bishop of Regensburg, in the Abbey of Reichenau. Henry and Wolfgang were later trained at the cathedral school in Würzburg by Stephen of Novara. In 956, Otto I of Germany appointed Henry to the vacant see of Trier.

Heinrich wurde – gemeinsam mit Wolfgang, dem späteren Bischof von Regensburg – im Kloster Reichenau ausgebildet; Wolfgang und er gingen später zu an die neue Domschule in Würzburg, wo sein Bruder Poppo seit 941 Bischof war. König Otto I. ernannte ihn, der von Flodoard als propinquus des Kaisers bezeichnet wird, 956 zum Erzbischof von Trier. Am 26. Mai 961 war er neben Brun von Köln und Wilhelm von Mainz der dritte Erzbischof, der Otto II. in Aachen zum König salbte. Er nahm auch an Ottos anschließendem Italienzug teil und war somit in Rom zugegen, als Otto die Päpste Johannes XII. und Benedikt V. absetzte. Heinrich starb in Rom an einer Seuche, die im Heer des Kaisers ausgebrochen war. Er wurde in Parma begraben und später in den Trierer Dom umgebettet. (de)

Henry later accompanied Otto I on his campaigns in Italy. He died in Rome during an epidemic of malaria that broke out in the imperial army caused by nearby pestilent marshes. Henry was buried in Parma but his remains were later translated to Trier Cathedral. (en)
