- Antoine Pierre Henri Filhol fou un paleontòleg, i zoòleg francès nascut l'11 de maig del 1843 a Tolosa i mort el 28 d'abril del 1902 a París. Era fill d' (1814-1883), conservador del museu de Tolosa. Filhol obtingué el seu títol de medicina el 1873 amb una tesi titulada: Sobre la sensibilitat recorrent a la mà. També fou doctor de les ciències i membre de l'Académie des sciences el 1897; presidí la el 1898. Participà en diverses expedicions, destacant les que feu a bord del Travailleur (1880, 1881 i 1882) i del Talisman (1883). En l'àmbit de l', la seva obra principal tractà de l'estudi de les fosforites del Carcí. També fou company dels primers prehistoriados que estudiaren les coves de l'Arieja (Bédeilhac, Mas d'Azil, Massat, Monfort, L'Herm,…). La seva bibliografia fou publicada a Nature el 1902 (pàgines 367 a 381) amb un retrat. (ca)

- Henri Filhol (13 May 1843 – 28 April 1902) was a French medical doctor, malacologist and naturalist born in Toulouse. He was the son of Édouard Filhol (1814-1883), curator of the Muséum de Toulouse. After receiving his early education in Toulouse, he moved to Paris, where he obtained doctorates in medicine and science. In 1879 he was appointed professor of zoology at the Faculty of Toulouse. From 1894 to 1902 he occupied the chair of comparative animal anatomy at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. In 1897 he became a member of the Académie des sciences. In the field of paleontology, he performed important studies of fossilized mammals in the phosphorites in Quercy. He served as the expedition doctor and naturalist on the French 1874 Transit of Venus Expedition to Campbell Island, with Filhol Peak on the island being named after him. In 1883 with Alphonse Milne-Edwards, Léon Vaillant, Edmond Perrier and others, he embarked on a scientific journey aboard the Talisman. (en)

- Henri Filhol (Toulouse in Frankrijk, 13 mei 1843 – Parijs, 28 april 1902) was een Franse arts, natuuronderzoeker en malacoloog. Zijn vader, Édouard Filhol (1814-1883), was conservator aan het Muséum de Toulouse. Na voorbereidende studie in Toulouse, behaalde hij in Parijs de graden van doctor in de geneeskunde en natuurwetenschappen. In 1879 werd hij benoemd tot hoogleraar in de dierkunde aan de faculteit natuurwetenschappen in Toulouse. Van 1894 tot 1902 bekleedde hij de leerstoel vergelijkende dierlijke anatomie aan het Muséum national d'histoire naturelle te Parijs. In 1897 werd hij lid van de Académie des sciences. Op het gebied van de paleontologie verrichtte hij belangrijk onderzoek aan de fossielen van zoogdieren in een geologische formatie in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk, in de Phosphorites du Quercy. In 1874 deed hij dienst als scheepsarts en natuuronderzoeker tijdens een Franse astronomische expeditie die op Campbelleiland de venusovergang bestudeerde. Een bergtop op het eiland werd bij deze gelegenheid naar hem vernoemd (Filhol peak) en hij beschreef een nieuwe vogelsoort, de campbellaalscholver (Leucocarbo campbelli). Ook in 1883 was hij deelnemer aan een wetenschappelijke expeditie samen met onder andere Alphonse Milne-Edwards, Léon Vaillant en Edmond Perrier. (nl)
