- Das Harlingerland ist ein Landstrich an der Nordseeküste in Ostfriesland. Während man heutzutage meistens den gesamten Landkreis Wittmund als Harlingerland zu bezeichnen pflegt, ist es historisch vor allem der nördliche Teil des heutigen Landkreises, der das alte friesische Land dieses Namens bildete. Zu nennen sind vor allem die Gebiete um Esens und Wittmund. Das Gebiet um Friedeburg gehörte zu der Zeit noch zu dem friesischen Land Östringen. Umgangssprache ist für viele Menschen im Harlingerland das ostfriesische Platt in seiner vom übrigen Ostfriesland etwas abweichenden Harlinger Ausprägung. Die alte friesische Sprache hielt sich im Harlingerland allerdings länger als in den meisten anderen ostfriesischen Landstrichen. - The Harlingerland is a strip of land on the North Sea coast of East Frisia. While today the whole of the district of Wittmund is usually described as Harlingerland, historically it specifically refers to the northern part of the present district, which formed the old Frisian state of this name, in particular, the regions around Esens and Wittmund. The region around Friedeburg still belonged at that time to the Frisian state of . The local dialect for many folk in the Harlingerland is East Frisian Low Saxon (or East Frisian platt) but with a Harlinger variation somewhat different from the rest of East Frisia. The old Frisian language continued to be spoken in the Harlingerland much longer than in most other East Frisian regions. Wittmund produces the local paper of the Harlingerland, the Anzeiger für Harlingerland. The Harlingerland is named for the Harlebucht, or Harle Bay, which has by now been almost completely filled in by farmland, through a series of dike-building projects spanning the last several centuries, commencing in 1545 and extending into the 20th century. The Harlebucht used to extend inland to the east of Werdum, north of Wittmund and Jever. Harlesiel, Harlingersiel, and Neuharlingersiel all take their name from the same source. (en)

- Het Harlingerland is een gebied langs de Waddenzee in Oost-Friesland. Tegenwoordig wordt met het Harlingerland meestal het gehele district Wittmund aangeduid; het historische Harlingerland komt echter overeen met het noorden van het district, met name de huidige gemeenten Esens en Wittmund. De naam van de landstreek komt ook voor in enkele plaatsnamen. Harlesiel en Neuharlingersiel zijn plaatsjes met uitwateringssluizen (Siel = zijl = sluis) aan de kust van de Waddenzee. Neuharlingersiel heeft de plaats ingenomen van Altharlingersiel, dat door bedijkingen tegenwoordig niet meer aan zee is gelegen. Het Harlingerland was onderdeel van het Vorstendom Oost-Friesland en een van de gouwen binnen de Zeven Friese Zeelanden. Vanaf 1600 was het een deel van het Graafschap Oost-Friesland. (nl)
- Harlingerland (Herloga) är ett gammalt frisiskt landskap i norra delen av nuvarande Landkreis Wittmund i Ostfriesland, Niedersachsen, Tyskland. I området finns i dag bland annat städerna Esens och Wittmund, medan området runt staden Friedeburg hörde till det frisiska landskapet Östringen. Andra omgivande frisiska landskap var Wangerland, Auricherland, Brookmerland och Norderland. Under tiden för den frisiska friheten var Harlingerland ett självständigt landskap som deltog i det så kallade Upstalboomsförbundet. Efter den frisiska friheten kom en tid av strider mellan de olika frisiska hövdingafamiljerna. Runt 1455 enade hövdingen Sibet Attena städerna Esens, Wittmund och Stedesdorf på nytt och Harlingerland kom att bli en konkurrent till Ostfriesland under ledning av familjen Cirksena. Bland de mer framträdande hövdingarna i Harlingerland kan nämnas Hero Omken och Balthasar von Esens. År 1530 intogs Harlingerland av ostfriserna under ledning av Enno II. Med stöd från greven av Rietberg och hertigen av Geldern kunde Balthasar av Esens återerövra Harlingerland, men tiden av självständighet för Harlingerland var nu slut. Efter Balthasars död tillföll området Grevskapet Rietberg och år 1600 kom Harlingerland att tillfalla Ostfriesland. (sv)
